We believe in work that creates value for all stakeholders, encourages collaboration at all levels and focuses on a high-performance environment where employees are challenged to be their best.Summary: The person in this position will be a subject matter expert in instrumentation, automation systems, PLCs, SCADA systems, electrical & equipment controls, and data networks.Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:(Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)

  • Understand company policies and enforce safety regulations. Safely perform functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and wearing PPE as required.
  • Have the ability to maintain, improve and participate in engineering and design of control systems.
  • Programming PLCs in Function Block, Ladder Logic, and Text Based Languages (Modicon M340s, M580s, Quantums using ControlExpert or Concept software) and the HMI/SCADA system running Citect.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation, process/production equipment, automation equipment, including PLC and SCADA program edits.
  • Identify and correct any instrumentation or automation system issues that potentially impact safety.
  • Maintain up-to-date or develop new P&IDs, automation system I/O maps, control and electrical diagrams as required.
  • Validate new automation equipment
  • Procure parts from the OEM or authorized vendors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on instrumentation, automation & control systems, and process/production equipment as scheduled in the JD Edwards Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Collaborate on PM Optimization activities. Recommend activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Respond to and provide feedback on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate / contribute to RCA and similar activities aimed at identifying and preventing equipment failures.
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, or improvement of computer-based data collection and reporting systems.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems and/or assist other team members in solving work problems.
  • Operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers, and diagnostic and testing instruments as required.
  • Be self-motivated, demonstrate strong organizational/time management skills, maintain excellent communication skills, and exhibit strong leadership skills such as ownership, leading by example, etc.
  • Be able to respond in a timely manner to emergency situations.
  • May be required to assist with regular maintenance on occasion as need and opportunity dictate.
  • Be willing to work extended hours beyond the regular shift, day or night as required.
  • Be available for on call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
QualificationsQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and/or Experience:
  • A diploma, or 4th Year Apprentice, in Instrumentation Engineering Technology
  • An electrical degree or certificate is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 1-year work experience in a related field.
  • Willing and able to learn and participate in training as required.
  • Good written and oral communication skills – interaction with trades, supervision, planning, and external resources will be required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products such as Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point.
  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1) system is beneficial but not required.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the plant – walking, climbing stairs, ladders and ramps, etc. will be required on occasion.
  • Must be capable of performing normal physical tasks with standard trade tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA, and automation and control systems troubleshooting.
  • Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.
  • High proficiency level in computer skills and software; Microsoft office products, AutoCAD, and Schneider automation software.
  • Must have analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
The new technician would be involved with all aspects of the operations instrumentation maintenance and repair. Additionally, the technician would be expected to collaborate and assess any modifications to existing or in the development of new instrumentation & controls systems design including equipment selection, communication with suppliers to obtain pricing, placing requisitions for procurement of components, and finally the installation and commissioning of the system.Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
