Job Description

Department: Operations Reports to: Director of Games Operations Direct Reports: TBD / Third Party Security Position Statusamp; Locations: Termed Employment, Vancouver on-site Position Start Date: September 2024 Salary: $6,667 - $7083 monthlyAbout Invictus Games 2025: The Invictus Games is a biennial international adaptive sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world. Through the power of sport, the Games inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country. The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will take place from February 8 to 16, 2025, on the traditional territories of the Lil̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Over 500 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and Veterans from more than 20 nations are set to compete in a wide range of adaptive sports, including adaptive winter sports, for the first time in Invictus Games history. The Vancouver Whistler Games Corporation (VWGC) is a Canadian not-for-profit organization established to organize and host the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. The Role The Security Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of all stakeholders involved in the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. This position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive security strategies, managing security operations, and coordinating with internal and external partner groups to mitigate risks effectively. Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Develop and execute the security project plan in alignment with the security framework and risk assessment provided by the security contractor.
  • Oversee the selection and management of delivery partners through competitive processes.
  • Lead the security team during Games time, ensuring seamless coordination and execution of security operations.
  • Liaise with governmental agencies, service providers, and contractors to ensure compliance with security protocols and regulations.
  • Proactively identify security threats and vulnerabilities, implementing appropriate countermeasures and contingency plans.
  • Conduct regular security briefings and trainings for both paid staff and volunteer team members.
  • Collaborate with other functional areas to integrate security protocols into overall event planning and operations.
  • Maintain clear communication channels and timely information sharing within the security team, senior management, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the resolution of security-related issues as they arise, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and crisis management abilities.
  • Uphold a commitment to the Invictus Games Movement and ensure that security measures align with its values and principles.
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies:
  • University qualifications in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in security operations, preferably in the context of large-scale events or multi-sport competitions.
  • Extensive experience and formal training in Gold/Silver/Bronze Incident Management system.
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and resilience in high-pressure environments, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
