Requisition ID: 35447Opportunity Type: PermanentEstimated Annual Salary: 250,000 - 300,000Type of Remuneration: FFS - Fee For ServiceSite Visit & Reallocation Allowance Programs: Site Visit Program; Relocation ProgramDepartment of Health & Wellness Incentives: Tuition Relief; Debt Assistance; Family Medicine Bursary ProgramAbout This OpportunityThe Town of Yarmouth is seeking a full-time family physician to join a collaborative team to provide office-based comprehensive primary care during both daytime and after-hours clinic hours. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide inpatient care at Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) to their own patients as well as to the orphan patient rotation. They may also participate in teaching through the Dalhousie University Family Medicine residency program based in Yarmouth, and/or with medical students through Dalhousie University. In addition, the successful candidate will provide nursing home care, if desired, and participate in the collaborative delivery of care with their fellow physicians and other care providers at the practice.YRH was originally founded in 1912 and has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 58,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties. Located in Yarmouth, YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs:

Responsibilities
  • ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
  • be accountable for appropriate workload and practice
  • continuum of patient care with health care providers within your practice and/or community
  • provide care and coordination of community-based care, secondary and tertiary level heath care
  • build to capacity within the first two years
  • operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • work toward same day or next day access for the practice population
  • work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community’s health needs
  • work with other providers to provide after-hours access and emergency coverage when required
  • participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
  • utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members

Qualifications
  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • College of Family Physicians of Canada ER certification considered an asset
