The Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal Student Support is part of a team which is responsible to ensure the principles and best practices of race relations, cross cultural understanding and human rights (RCH) are embedded in the delivery of programs and services for students. They, as part of a team, will facilitate professional development opportunities for central office and school level staff which fosters opportunities for culturally responsive pedagogical approaches and promotes a positive learning environment free of discrimination based on a student’s race, language, religion, culture, gender, ability, or sexual orientation. The Coordinator of MiKmaw Services will lead the team that includes the Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal Student Support Workers and is responsible for identifying and developing programs, learning supports and strategies which respond to the needs of all Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal learners.
