(Please note: Failure to include your references will cause delay in processing your application.)Assignment:Appui Precoce en litteratie & Core French Grade 4&5JOB DESCRIPTION:The Literacy Intervention Teacher will work with classroom teachers and school-based administrators to improve student achievement; focus will be on students approaching grade level benchmarks in reading and writing at the grade 2-3 level (tentative). The Literacy Intervention Teacher is expected to:

  • Provide small group instruction to students who are approaching grade level benchmarks (framework provided by TCRCE Literacy staff)
  • Work in/out of classrooms with students to support literacy development and achievement of students
  • Maintain and submit records as outlined by the TCRCE Literacy staff
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills
  • Utilize effective data-based problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate effective collaboration skills
  • Use effective strategies for differentiating instruction
  • Exhibit knowledge of outcomes-based curriculum
  • Experience teaching French Immersion
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluate students’ literacy needs and collaborate with teachers and administrators to interpret, use assessment data to improve instruction, and problem-solve
  • Use a range of assessment tools as a means to make sound decisions about student literacy needs as related to the curriculum and instruction
  • Analyze formal and informal student assessment data to determine next steps in instruction
  • Plan, sequence, and scaffold instruction based on high leverage instructional practices
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate;
  • French major at university and/or extended period of immersion in French speaking environment and/or attendance at primary and secondary where French was the language of instruction;
  • Minimum five (5) years recent, successful classroom teaching experience in literacy instruction;
  • Experience with Guided Reading/Small-group Instruction;
  • Early Literacy Support/Reading Recovery training would be an asset;
  • Experience teaching Core French;
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism;
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
