The Food Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire food service department and clinical nutrition and food services The RD will be assuming the role of Food Service Manager and will be responsible for the management of Food Services. As a Food Service Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Establish and enforce nutritional standards.
  • Planning menus that meet the Canadian Nutrition Recommendations for the elderly individuals, i.e., which contain moderate amounts of fat, sodium and simple sugars, and include fluid and fiber-rich foods each day. Note: Food is acknowledged to be an important factor in residents’ quality of life because it provides opportunities for socialization and is a pleasant method of celebrating special occasions and festivities. Residents are encouraged to participate in menu planning during Resident Council Meetings.
  • Addressing residents’ individual needs by modifying texture and portions, and by considering food preferences.
  • Planning therapeutic diets as ordered by Physicians or as requested by residents.
  • Complete all required nutritional assessments, re-assessments, and follow-ups. Assessing each resident’s nutritional needs within 30 days of admission and when necessary, thereafter and during the Resident Care Conference.
  • Supervising and identifying any clinical nutrition or food service concerns during meals rounds.
  • Performing swallowing assessments for residents having difficulties swallowing food and/or fluid.
  • Provide nutrition education to families, residents, and staff as needed.
Managing Food Services include:
  • Approve/Audit bi-annual (5-week cycle menu; spring/summer and fall/winter) menus according to the Resident Care Regulations.
  • Monitoring and collecting all temperature records.
  • Performing regular food service audits annually.
  • Providing dietary staff food service education.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and security in food distribution and preparation in the kitchen environment.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a recognized Dietetic Program.
  • A Registered Dietitian (RD) under College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
  • Tube Feed Certification (Reserved Act A).
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to educate staff and Residents.
