Job Description

The Health Career Access Program (HCAP) provides a path for applicants with little to no experience in the health care sector to get hired as a Health Care Support Worker and receive paid training to become a Registered Care Aide as part of their employment.In partnership with the B.C. Ministry of Health, Mayfair Senior Living + Care in Abbotsford, BCis hiring Health Care Support Workers (HCSW) and supporting them to become qualified as registered Health Care Assistants through HCAP.This Ministry of Health funded initiative will pay for your post-secondary education and provide a weekly stipend while you attend school. You will be expected to work as a registered Health Care Aide for 12 month minimum Return of Service, at your site of hire into HCAP once you successfully graduate. Start your HCAP journey with our team here at The Mayfair Senior Living + Care as a Health Care Support Worker. Some of your tasks as an HCSW include:

  • Assist HCA’s with care: Prepare baths, get supplies, pick out clothes
  • Learn on site: Observe careamp; attend care conferences
  • Assist with Recreation: setting up activities, playing games, reminiscing, conversations, sharing stories
  • Porter residents: Walk along side of to and from activities and mealsamp; porter resident that require wheelchair assistance
  • Mealtime Assistance: Verbal cueing, encouragement, hand out meal trays (supervised for texture/dietary specifics)
  • Assist with Housekeepingamp; HCA tasks: Make beds, stock units and rooms, take out garbage, fold laundry, clean equipment, tidy bathrooms and resident room.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 10, including successful completion of English 10 or equivalency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
