Job Description

We offer a collaborative and dynamic workplace where our values of Trustworthy, Transparent, Respectful, and Collaborative guide our conduct and contribute to a healthy culture.To support the on-going operation of the Parks & Recreation department, the County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Park Host(s) for our Pipestone Creek Campground which is located 16 kilometers south of Wembley, near one of the richest areas for dinosaur fossils in western Canada, and the largest site in the world for Pachyrhinosaurus fossils.The Park Host(s) will be responsible for all day use and campground maintenance, and therefore must enjoy working outdoors, and interacting with the public daily. The Park Host must reside on site year-round in a County provided home. This contract is for a two-year term with a one-year probationary period. An individual or couple could fill the position.Park Host duties will include, but are not limited to:Being an ambassador for the County of Grande Prairie, welcoming guests and visitors to the campground and day use areas, maintaining a family-oriented atmosphere and handling customer inquiries and requests.Operations, maintenance and cleaning of campground and day use areas including the buildings, roadways, greenspaces (mowing & trimming), picnic sites, campsites, outhouses, shower block and playgrounds.Being a steward of the land, liaising with park stakeholders as required and educating guests on behavioural guidelines.Managing daily public access including opening and closing park gates at the start and end of the day - seven days a week during summer season (May 15 - Oct 15) and on weekends during the winter season (Oct 16 - May 14).Working with service contractors to ensure park operating systems are working efficientlyManaging the campground guest traffic using the County reservation system to ensure smooth campground customer arrival and departures, and keeping a satisfactory record of the activityQUALIFICATIONS:Exceptional customer relations and communication skillsAn enjoyment of working outside, and the ability to organize a demanding workloadAbility to use discretion and good judgement while working with minimal supervisionAbility to educate guest on park rules and diffuse difficult situations as requiredConfidence to work with minimal supervision daily, yet team orientated to meet department goalsAbility to perform hard physical labourPrevious experience operating ride on mower, trimmer, brush cutter or turf managementAbility to perform minor repairs and maintenance on buildings, furniture, and fixturesCompetency in computer use including MS officeProof of clean criminal record and vulnerable persons background checkA class 5 drivers license and an acceptable drivers abstractWe thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.The County of Grande Prairie recognizes and values the principles of fair hiring practices.
