Job Description

ROLE:Surerus Murphy JV is searching for a Project QA/QC manager to join our team on the Edson Mainline loop No.4 Elk River spread, hereinafter referred to as the “Project”..It involves the construction of approximately 40 km of NPS 48 pipeline which is in Yellowhead and Clearwater County, Alberta, approximately 115 km southeast of Hinton. The project will be based out of Drayton Valley, Alberta. :The Project QA/QC Manager is responsible for controlling and maintaining the company’s QA/QC program and processes for the project. His/Her objective is to maintain a consistent professional working relationship with the customers project management team. They will be responsible to develop, administer and implement a Quality Management Plan that meets or exceeds the projects quality requirements. The Quality Management Plan at minimum will be in accordance with the owner specifications, regulatory requirements and industry standards. Provide support and mentorship to the construction group and Quality team. The individual should have knowledge and skills to be able to provide solutions to QA/QC issues that arise on the project. Update the QA/QC performance monitoring and reporting requirements to the construction management team. Establish a collaborative team work atmosphere with the QA/QC Leads, Inspectors, and Administrators.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage and maximize the use of project quality resources to effectively deliver projects on time and on budget.Provide corporate leadership, mentorship, and direction to all project quality control personnel.Ongoing monitoring and analysis of results of weld and coating repair rates, QA/QC field inspections, and responses to client compliance issues.Proactively identify mitigation and corrective measures to quality compliance issues, identify trends and rectify any resulting non conformancesUndertake monitoring and cost analysis of quality related defects,Assist with the development of Weld Procedure Specifications and other technical certifications.Develop training packages for roll out to project teams to ensure full understanding and requirements of the QC Management Systems including Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, etc.Assist in development and support of the quality related key performance indicators (KPIs).Lead and support the Project QA/QC team to first class delivery of QA/QC.Oversee field quality related Non-conformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective Action Requests (CARs) investigations with consistent use of root cause analysis. Escalate reports as required.Maintain a close working relationship with the SMJV Management Team to ensure timely input of expert knowledge to support the development, training and roll out of ISO 9001 documents as relevant to the field quality control.Develop and maintain a QA/QC knowledge bank to suit the requirements of the Company e.g. up to date specifications and codes, library of weld procedures, etc.Work closely with the SMJV Management Team to develop the QA/QC audit schedule and undertake audits as required.Compile and communicate appropriate lessons learned and good practices from the Project to ensure continuous improvement across the business.Undertake site visits to promote leadership, engagement and support for the Walk the Line Culture Development Program.Note: in addition to these duties’ personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the Company.:POSITION REQUIREMENTS:QualificationsCSA 178.2 Certification CWB Level II or industry equivalent.NACE CIP Level I or II certification is strongly recommendedEngineering degree (Mechanical, Civil/Structural), or graduate of an applicable technical diploma program is considered an asset.ExperienceMinimum of 10 years of experience in a quality control related position in pipeline constructionMinimum of 3 years as a Quality Lead or Manager on pipeline projects in the pipeline Industry.Skills and KnowledgeIn depth technical experience and knowledge in welding (including support of weld procedure development and implementation), pipeline coating, and non-destructive testing (both radiography and ultrasonic)Communication and negotiation skills to manage direct interface with client supervisory and management staff to resolve quality and field inspection problems, agree to remedial actions and represent the best interests of the CompanyUnderstanding of the oil and gas industry (especially pipeline/facility construction).Ability to read and understand relevant construction documents including drawings, specifications, procedures and codes of practice.Good working knowledge of ABSA, ASME, CSA, ISO 9001 and associated codes, standards and regulations as well as government regulatory bodies overseeing energy industry activities in Canada.WORKING CONDITIONS:This position is field based, located south west of Drayton Valley, AB. The project is LOA eligible. Shift is 6 days on 1 day off, with 12 hour shifts for the duration of the project.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:The Project QA/QC Manager reports to the project manager .
