Job Synopsis The Taber Thrift Shop business is actively engaged in obtaining donations of second-hand clothing, small appliances, housewares, books, toys, furniture and collectibles with all sales proceeds designated to support the relief and development mission of Mennonite Central Committee. As a collaborative member of the MCC Thrift Shop team, the Receiver will work closely with the rest of the team consisting of volunteers, and staff.ChallengesKey Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for day to day receiving & distributing of items at the back door.
  • Be responsible for the culling of those items not accepted by Thrift Shops according to Federal and Provincial regulations
  • Cull donations, ensuring the best quality of donations are placed on the sales floor for shoppers
  • Help donors empty their vehicles or help to load sold items into their cars.
  • Thank donors for their items or politely telling them if we are unable to accept their items. (Try to explain why in a courteous manner)
  • Helping MCC Alberta by accepting “Material Resource” donations.
  • Presort donations from bags and boxes into apple boxes by categorizing them (books, shoes, etc.)
  • Ensuring the receiving department is kept tidy and free of tripping hazards.
  • heavy lifting over 50lbs.
  • Maintain receiving area organization.
  • Daily cleaning of Shop, includes but not limited to sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning washrooms, washing windows four times/year, dusting surfaces in office and cash desk areas
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
    • Challenges:This position is physically demanding, requiring extended periods of time standing on a concrete floor, a lot of lifting overhead and hauling boxes.Quick Apply
