Job Description

WORKING FOR SPARKSMANREQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Class 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license (Class 2 training provided to those without a current class 1 or 2 license)
  • 4 demerits or less, with a relatively clean driver abstract
  • Clear criminal record
IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE:
  • You must be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • You will need three references: at least one of which must be a business; character references are valid for the other two; family members cannot provide references.
VERY IMPORTANT: Do not purchase a Drivers Abstract until requested to do so.If successful in the interview process, you will be asked to provide a current Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector Check completed, a completed Child Intervention Record Check, and a current Commercial Driver Abstract with a 10-year driving history.Based on the results of your interview and a review of your documentation, you may then be offered training to get your class 2 license. Those individuals already holding class 1 or 2 licenses will have a shorter training program that will be based on their previous school bus driving experience.Upon successfully completing the training program, you will be offered a position as a casual driver. Most casual drivers successfully bid on a permanent run within a few months. In the interim, they work covering off for those who are away on leaves or off for other reasons. There are also many opportunities to pick up additional charter work, both within your local community or on out of town on trips to other nearby towns and cities, or to major centres like Edmonton and Calgary, or even as far away as Banff, Jasper, Medicine Hat or Lethbridge!NOTE: Health problems related to heart, hearing, eyesight, diabetes, or other physical impediments may restrict your ability to obtain the required Class 2 License. Health issues such as these need clearance prior to your interview with Sparksman Transportation. Please phone the Government of Alberta Medical Review Board at (toll-free) 310-0000 and then dial 780-427-8230 to reach a representative from that department.Quick Apply
