Company ProfileMinto Metals, a producing underground copper mine has exciting opportunities to become part of our team and live by our Company values – Be Safe, Be Honest, Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Great!Role: Summer StudentsPositionsWe are looking for 4 full-time temporary Summer Student positions for a 4-month contract in our Environment and Exploration teams. The role will be based at the Minto mine which is a camp-based operation with a two-week on/two-week off rotation.The Ideal Candidates will have;

  • Related academic experience or work experience;
  • Be registered in a full-time or part-time post-secondary program. Be studying in fields related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or business.
  • have experience using ATVs considered an asset;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence;
  • Strong scientific acumen and attention to detail;
  • Self-motivated and an ability to work on your own and as member of a team amid shifting priorities;
  • Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships;
  • Ability to work with a diverse cross-cultural workforce;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Valid drivers license;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs;
  • Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
The Opportunity:We have two summer student positions in our Environment Team and 2 summer student positions in our Exploration Department.Responsibilities in Environment:
  • Assist and conduct routine environmental monitoring activities according to Environmental Monitoring, Surveillance and Reporting Plan and established protocols, including surface water, groundwater and soil sampling;
  • Operate and maintain monitoring equipment, including pick-up truck, ATV, instruments and pumps;
  • Ensure water and soil samples are packaged and transported properly for shipment;
  • Monitor wildlife activity around the site and participate in wildlife deterring, if necessary;
  • Participate in reclamation activities, such as re-vegetation, seeding or seed collection, and regrading;
  • Maintain monitoring logbooks/digital records, and photo records;
  • Assist in site waste management and brush clearing;
  • Inspect and monitor environmental concerns around the mine site including exploration activities;
  • Be an effective communicator in English (verbal and written) at all levels, including keeping your cross-shift and other team members fully always informed
  • Participate in Daily Safety Meetings when onsite and comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental Regulations, Corporate Policies and Procedures;
  • Participate in site-specific training;
  • Comply with company standards, as well as Yukon Territory and Canadian federal standards;
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time as required by the Company.
Responsibilities in Exploration:
  • Geotechnician work opportunity
  • Work in the core shack as part of a team running a diamond drill exploration program.
  • Geological data review & analysis
  • Measuring and collecting drill core data into a computer
  • Sampling drill core for assay; cutting drill core with a diamond saw.
  • Geologist’s Assistant duties which will require working outdoors in a variety of terranes and weather for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain a high standard of performance in your duties;
  • Be an effective communicator in English (verbal and written) at all levels, including keeping your cross-shift and other team members always informed
  • Participate in site-specific training;
  • Comply with company standards, as well as Yukon Territory and Canadian federal standards;
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time as required by the Company.
