As a professional in the community, you will be required to work with other associated bodies, including the RCMP, Mental Health, Medical Personnel, Education, Justice and various community resources. You will be considered an essential service provider of the community. Key focus areas you would be responsible for include:

  • Program Delivery
  • Child Welfare
  • Adult Protection Services
  • Individual and Family/Group Counselling
  • Aged/physically challenged Services
  • Providing a liaison services at large in the Community
  • Adoptions
Department of Family Services is responsible for developing and implementing strategic programs and initiatives for the residents of Nunavut in the area of child and family services, career development and training, adoptions, income assistance, and poverty reduction. These services aim to help strengthen and ensure the well-being of the residents of Nunavut and its communities. Much of the work done by the incumbent will be completed within isolated communities with limited supports. Ability to work with, and support other disciplines in promoting overall health of both the family and the community will be a vital part of the incumbent’s role as a community social services worker.Qualifications required: a minimum Diploma in Social Work, plus 1 year child protection experience. However a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from recognized university along with 1 year child protection is preferred. Ability to read and write professional reports. Class 5 driver’s license or ability to get one within four (4) months from beginning employment in this position is a requirement. As well to obtain and maintain a Child and Family Services appointment. An ability to speak Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun is an asset.Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may include a Diploma in Social Work or a Degree in Social Work or the Social Sciences with transferrable education and experience suited to general Social Service Program.Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is required for this position.An eligibility list may be created to fill future.If you are interested in applying for this job, please email your cover letter and resume to Igloolik_HR@gov.nu.ca.
