Job Description

Crisis Response Worker - Mental Health Community Engagement Worker - .7 fte (24.5 hrs/wk) contract position to March 31, 2025Day, Evening and Weekend Shifts (flexible to work after hours)You will be responsible for engaging with individuals, families and groups to reduce inequities for individuals under-represented in the community. You will be working in partnership with York Regional Police Community Engagement Officer and the community to improve relations between marginalized communities and community mental health/addiction services and police, and increase awareness on mental health and addiction services, while increasing community participation and reducing isolation.Under the direction of the Manager of Specialized and Regional Access Functions and the supervision of the Mental Health Support Team Supervisor, the Mental Health Community Outreach and Engagement Worker will provide integrated, collaborative, innovative and non-traditional support to clients with mental health needs. He/she will also work with other community partners to build capacity and create opportunities for people to engage with and access mental health and addiction services. Furthermore, she/he will assist individuals and families in meeting their social needs, support, and encourage clients in building strong community links.Responsibilities:

  • Work within an anti-racism, anti-oppression, culturally and linguistically appropriate approach
  • Focus on supporting hard to reach children, youth and adults who have challenges with the determinants of health. This includes at-risk vulnerable people, and those with multi-sector complex needs
  • Use best practices in client outreach and engagement
  • Identify trends and gaps in services, and in community education
  • Collaborate with existing resources to ensure the quality of services being delivered
  • Provide direct hands-on support according to the preferences and needs of the client
  • Provide services in various locations throughout the service area including shelters, public places as well as, places of common gathering within our community, and other locations where non-traditional supports are required
  • Help clients recognize their strengths and become integral assets in their community through advocacy, outreach, and engagement
