Job Description

The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Highway Safety Division is seeking a qualified individual to join our team. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will support Human Resources services and activities.About Us:The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North Americas largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.The Highway Safety Division (HSD) incorporates the Provincial Traffic Operations (PTO), six Greater Toronto Area (GTA)/Golden Horseshoe Detachments and dedicated full time deployed traffic units located in North West, North East, West, East and Central Regions. HSD consists of approximately 650 Uniform and Civilian members and is responsible for a patrol area of 139,047 kilometers of highway, trails and many waterways across Ontario.The OPP Values promote always doing the right things for the right reasons, by:

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Human Resources functions, practices and procedures related to recruitment in order to participate in the provision of consultation, knowledge and strategic advice to Senior Managers in their recruitment activities.
  • Acts, regulations and policies relating to and affecting human resources activities.
  • Project management skills to coordinate mass recruitment or talent pool initiatives including reaching milestones in recruitment, assessing and evaluating the outcome.
  • Computer applications and databases to prepare correspondence, presentation packages and spreadsheets which track aspects of recruitment activity.
  • Analyzes job requirements and past successes to recommend effective outreach sources, job advertising strategies and preferred approaches for success.
  • Plans and coordinates learning programs for in-scope employees related to recruitment processes.
  • Creates, presents and educates staff, managers and prospective employees about the ministry, career information and human resources initiatives.
  • Theories, principles and best practices in needs assessments, recruitment strategies, candidate sourcing, writing job advertisements, creating benchmarking and selection criteria, creating interview and assessment materials, managing selection and hiring processes, diversity issues and impacts on recruitment.
