We have been operating at Meadowbank, our first Low Arctic mine, near Baker Lake for over ten years. The mine produced its three millionth ounce of gold in 2018. 2019 marked the last year of production at the Meadowbank mine and has since transitioned to process ore from the Amaruq satellite deposit. With the official opening of the Amaruq Whale Tail Project in August 2019, the project is now referred to as the Meadowbank Complex. The Complex refers to the processing facilities and infrastructure at the Meadowbank mine site combined with the mining and infrastructure at the Amaruq site.YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE: Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, the Environmental Technician is part of the Environment Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine. They will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s culture, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment. Some of the tasks included but not limited to are as follows:

  • Identify non-compliances and execute continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Carryout tasks required to maintain compliance with environmental regulations, including compliance inspections, compliance sampling (water/air/soil), environmental monitoring and worker education;
  • Maintain and calibrate environmental monitoring equipment;
  • Compile and analyze environmental monitoring data for regulatory reporting requirements;
  • Collect field data in remote locations in diverse environmental conditions;
  • Complete wildlife surveys including organization of HTO monitors;
  • Complete shipping and analysis request;
  • Complete spill follow up in the field;
  • Conduct Health and Safety meetings;
  • Ensure all field equipment is safe and in working order (boat, motor, snowmobile);
  • Conduct Toolbox Meetings
  • Work safely, effectively, independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • College degree or equivalent in an Environmental Field;
  • 2-5 years of field experience, preferably in mining operations;
  • Experience handling Snowmobile, ATVs and Boats;
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License, Firearm Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC);
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Experience in collecting environmental compliance data (water, air and soil quality)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions;
  • Ability to lift 50lbs;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
