Job Description

We support this vision through the development of a unique and diverse blend of accessible low-cost and no-cost programs and services, created in direct response to community needs; primarily serving children, youth, families, and seniors.Our dedicated and welcoming staff team, along with our many active volunteers, including our Board of Directors, are all committed to making Parkgate Society a welcoming and inclusive community services organization.Opportunity:The Seniors Program Assistant will assist in the day-to-day operations and delivery of our social programs as well as the coordination of other senior’s programs and services offered. This position will contribute to the departments overall effectiveness and success of our service delivery, helping our Seniors feel better connected to the community and so they can live life better.Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures rooms are set-up to serve both participant and programming needs
  • Ensures proper room take down and clean-up is done in accordance with current healthamp; safety requirements
  • For the delivery of food services to Seniors, ensuring the commercial kitchen and other spaces utilized are properly cleaned at the end of each session
  • Oversees volunteers with meal preparation, meal service and kitchen clean-up
  • Builds and maintains good relationships with Seniors programs participants
  • Addresses any questions, suggestions, concerns or complaints as they arise to the appropriate Seniors programs leader
Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of not-for-profit and community based organizations;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork, facilitation and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively with program staff, volunteers, non-profit or publicly funded groups, agencies or organizations
  • Applicants must be able to be comfortably on their feet and stand for the majority of a shift, as well as lift and carry as much as 20-25 pounds of equipment or other related program items
  • Flexibility with occasional evenings and weekends and seasonal events is an asset
  • Food Safe, First Aid certification, Serving It Right and a Class 4 drivers license are assets
Contract Details:
  • We are located in beautiful North Vancouver
  • Hourly wage is $19.50 per hour plus 6% vacation pay
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check / Vulnerable Sector Search
