Job Description

Operational Assistant Position Profile: The Operational Assistant is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in planning and executing of all operations and resources of Beyond Food Community Hub, in accordance with the strategic direction, mission, vision and policies set by the Board of Directors.The Operational Assistant ensures the progress and development of the organization’s programs and assists with the supervision of volunteers. The Operational Assistant sustains strong and supportive relationships with donors, the media, business community, the public, the food bank network, government at all levels and other human service agencies.The Operational Assistant creatively seeks and secures financial support from a wide range of potential funding sources. This position is responsible for all the financial transactions necessary to meet the operative needs of the organization. In carrying out the responsibilities of the position, the Beyond Food Project Manager maintains a collaborative and accountable relationship with the Board of directors and organizational staff members.The Operational Assistant will:

  • Serve as an advocate for the organization, communicating the Beyond Food Community Hub purpose and programs to the public
  • Ensure that relationships with customers, donors, volunteers and the community-at-large are handled in a manner consistent with organizational values, mission and strategic objectives
  • Work with the Executive Director in the develop in appropriate annual long-term financial objectives, working with the organization in achievement of financial goals
  • Assist in the management of operations through a team of volunteer leaders; recruit, schedule, manage and train volunteers through coordinating and supervising the team to support the operational requirements of the Hub and backup plans to cover potential gaps in key volunteer positions, while ensuring each program also has adequate backup plans developed.
  • Attract, develop, motivate and retain volunteers, guiding them to achieve short and long-term organizational objectives
  • Have input in program development that addresses food insecurity in our community relating to children and the senior population, addresses the lack of affordable healthy foods through an affordable market, community garden and grow a row program ensuring regular access to affordable, fresh, healthy food within the community and work with the Executive Director with the development of the new programs, existing programs to determine efficiencies, inadequacies and sustainability
  • Assist in providing a strategic vision and direction for the organization, assisting with the development and implementation of long-term strategies to meet needs and objectives of all stakeholder
  • Help execute a robust fundraising plan to sustain and expand the work of the organization
  • Follow all board policies, consistent with the Policies and Procedures developed for the organization
  • Assists in executing the goals and objectives set out by the organization
  • Has a pre-approved purchasing limit approved by the Board of Directors.
Position Requirements: Hours of Work: This part-time role includes approximately 20 hours of paid work with an additional 5 hours volunteer time needed. There will be some necessary evenings, until 6pm on program days and special or fundraising events. Working occasional weekends is also a requirement of the role.Execution of programs:
  • Food Hamper program: 6 hours (1st and 3rd Wednesday each month)
  • Good Food Box program: 1 hour (1st and 3rd Wednesday each month)
  • Lunchbox program: 3 hours (every Thursday)
  • Affordable market: 3 hours (two Tuesday a month)
  • Community Kitchen program (to be determined)
Physical Demands:
  • Medium work, occasionally lifting to 50lbs
  • Pushing/pulling
  • Sitting and standing for periods of time
  • Repetitive reaching and bending
  • General cleaning required
Education: A degree in a humanitarian or social program would be an asset.Job Types: Part-time, PermanentPart-time hours: 20-25 per weekSalary: $1,760.00-$2,000.00 per monthBenefits:
