The company also provides custom production services to other food companies, using Kawartha’s expertise in the business to produce ice cream and other specialty dairy items to the exact specifications of these firms.Reflecting the explosive growth in the brand and the business as a whole, Kawartha Dairy has recently constructed a 54,000-square-foot Distribution Centre just south of Bobcaygeon to serve its provincial operations. What You’ll Do:Set up and operation of machines:
  • Responsible for performing tasks on the 20L, 4L bag line, 2L carton line, 1 L carton line, case washer and case destacker
  • Setup and control operation of a production packaging machine(s) in accordance with established procedures and specifications
  • Tends to machine that performs one or more packaging functions, such as filling, dating, sealing, taping, packing, or tying
  • Starts machine and observes operation to detect malfunctions of machine. Stops machine and reports malfunction to supervisor
  • Makes minor adjustments or repairs, such as opening valves, changing packaging, setting guides, or clearing away damaged product containers
  • Monitor gauges and read-outs to ensure machine is operating properly
  • Replenish packaging supplies, such as film, outer bags, boxes, cartons, tape, ink, or labels
  • May need to position and hold container in machine and depress pedal, press button, or move lever to fill, open/close, or seal container
Monitor and test finished product samples:
  • Inspects filled container to ensure that product is packaged according to specifications
  • Checks for leaks and other minor defects
  • Check weight, seals, code date, temperature, etc
  • Takes samples for quality control testing
  • Perform housekeeping tasks on shift
What you Need to Get the Job Done:
  • High School Diploma required or a combination of equivalent experience
  • Previous machine operator or packing experience strongly preferred ideally from a food/beverage manufacturing environment
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment is an asset
  • May be required to complete a Plant Milk and Cream Grader certificate from the Ontario Dairy Council
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with others
  • Able to fill in appropriate paperwork documentation: machine check sheets, weight check sheets and packaging verification
  • Ability to discuss production issues in a constructive way with co-workers and Supervisor in a respectful, positive and collaborative manner
  • Eye/hand coordination is essential
  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye co-ordination
  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions (i.e. lifting up to 25kg)
  • Must be reliable
  • Able to work as a team member
