Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it remains headquartered in the lakeside community of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, where it was founded, near Peterborough, an hour north of the GTA.Today Kawartha Dairy operates 10 retail stores and services a wide range of customers, from grocery stores to foodservice establishments and of course, ice cream parlours. The company also provides custom production services to other food companies, using Kawartha’s expertise in the business to produce ice cream and other specialty dairy items to the exact specifications of these firms.Reflecting the explosive growth in the brand and the business as a whole, Kawartha Dairy has recently constructed a 54,000-square-foot Distribution Centre just south of Bobcaygeon to serve its provincial operations. Investments are also underway to modernize the production plant, our systems and our infrastructure.As the Maintenance and Reliability Manager of our close-knit Maintenance Team, you are responsible for the safe, effective and efficient maintenance repair or replacement of facility equipment and systems to ensure maximum production quantity, quality, and efficient company operations.Kawartha Dairy is committed to growing our company culture of super-friendly staff, above-and-beyond customer service and of course creating a fabulous collection of ice cream and other products.We at Kawartha Dairy live by our five values:

What You’ll Do:
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of all machinery in the facility
  • Participate in the objective setting, plan development and performance review of the facility
  • Initiate, implement, and manage the facility maintenance program based on best practices in the food/dairy industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventative/predictive maintenance
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are being used to full capacity and that production is able to reach optimum levels
  • Responsible for identifying and prioritizing major (chronic) maintenance issues with production
  • Initiate and develop action plans to resolve issues
  • Keep records of the services, maintenance and refurbishing work carried out on the machinery
  • Maintain and repair maintenance shop equipment
  • Communicate directly with the Operations Department to coordinate repair work in process, packing, warehouse, and shipping areas
  • Communicate directly with staff regarding the implementation of quality assurance policies and procedures including the HACCP program
  • Liaise and coordinate with outside sub-contractors working on the premises, ensuring they are wearing the appropriate safety equipment, and that they have sufficient liability insurance, and a current certificate of WSIB compliance
  • coordinate with other departments and outside vendors to ensure adequate supply of materials and parts
  • Provide maintenance planning schedules for other departments to maintain adequate stock requirements
  • Regularly review and analyze material and expense costs to determine maintenance performance standards and to manage maintenance department budget
  • Provide for monitoring methods and processes to ensure maintenance cost containment
  • Provide for adequate maintenance procedures to ensure HACCP requirements are met, as well as GMP’s, environmental standards, and standard operating procedures
  • Establish and maintain a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of the facility
  • Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and related problems
  • Lead a team of subordinates and assign work areas to them
  • Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department
  • Provide training to ensure all maintenance staff are adequately trained in maintenance procedures
  • Provide annual performance evaluation for the maintenance staff

What You Need to Get the Job Done:
  • An excellent coach, mentor, teacher, and communicator who cherishes the experience of managing and working with some amazing people.
  • Must have a mechanical or electrical trade license
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager
  • Must have strong management experience with a major manufacturing organization
  • Managing a maintenance department, including supervisory experience in processing/packaging operations in the food industry
  • Strong mechanical and process aptitude
  • Experience in managing complex projects and tight timelines
  • High competency level in use of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum)
  • Someone who identifies problems, analyzes data, makes good decisions based on solid information and someone who has experience with “implementation processes” should really apply for this role and become a part of our Kawartha Dairy Family.
