We offer the opportunity of employee ownership, flexibility and consistent employment.The Equipment Operator/Sales Support Assistant is responsible for ensuring the rail materials purchased by Cando are inventoried, stored, and/or shipped. Working independently, the Operator/Assistant ensures yard inventory is maintained, product is delivered to customers in a timely manner, and the yard and its equipment is kept clean and free of hazards.Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensures for the safe loading, unloading, classification, and sorting of all track materials
  • Prepares orders and ensures for the on-time delivers product to customers; order preparation includes gathering, palletizing, bundling, and stacking of railway materials
  • Maintains our sites at 830 Douglas and 800 – 49th Street East, including grounds maintenance, snow clearing, and vegetation control with a focus on safety and security
  • Performs minor repairs and general servicing of equipment such as greasing, oil changes, and minor repairs
  • Maintains multiple inventory management systems for the yard also tracking historically used material and creating a planned matrixs for when to reorder material
  • Supports the procurement and sales of track materials and coordinates freight and logistics
  • Tracks and prepares monthly sales and inventory reports
  • Determine required materials for jobs and obtaining best price quotes from suppliers.
  • Carries out the purchasing, shipping, and billing functions necessary to provide product to our customers
  • Travel to various customer locations and customer sites is required
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload leading to successful delivery of services conforming to schedules and deadlines
  • Knowledge of various types of railway materials along with the appropriate loading, unloading, and storage methods
  • Practical knowledge of the principles and practices of inventory management
  • Ability to hold and maintain a valid forklift operators license and minimum Class 5 drivers license
  • Ability to operator a variety of equipment and perform heavy lifting and labour-intensive duties in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to hold and maintain eRailsafe and CN Rules card
  • Ability to travel and work away from home for periods of time
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with the general public, other employees, and external organizations
  • Proficient in the use of computers including spreadsheet and database software
Education & Experience
  • Minimum 2 years operating heavy equipment specifically equipment possessing forks, magnets and/or grapples
  • Class 5 license with clean driving record; Class 1 or 3 license an asset
  • Experience working in a customer service environment with purchasing or inventory experience
  • Proficient in operating loaders, forklifts, small hand equipment with aptitude to become proficient on larger construction equipment
