Job Description

MAINTENANCE WORKER - PART TIME (24hrs/week)Extendicare is a leading provider of care and services for seniors throughout Canada. Our qualified and highly trained workforce of 23,700 team members are united by a dedication to quality care and by our vision of being the best provider of senior care and services in Canada.Applications are invited for the Permanent Part-Time position of Maintenance Worker at our Extendicare Hillcrest Place 100-bed facility located in Brandon, Manitoba.SUMMARY OF DUTIES:Under the direction of the Support Services Manager, the Maintenance worker performs preventive maintenance tasks, including PM checks, building inspections and minor on demand repairs, but not limited to heavy duty cleaning and grounds maintenance/work.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2 years building maintenance experience, preferably in an institutional setting is preferred.
2. Possess technical competencies related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC.3. Ability to read and write English as well as to understand verbal and written instructions in English.4. Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined which includes ability to maintain regular attendance in addition to work in a very dynamic environment.5. Valid drivers license required and ability to be on-call after hours.6. Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care to Residents.7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To complete the Extendicare preventative maintenance program and to follow the program, document and adjust the program to include any equipment that is not covered and needs to be documented for Accreditation purposes
  • Carries out repairs to malfunctioning equipment as directed.
  • Checks regularly the operation of all mechanical equipment as directed.
  • Assists in the maintenance of adequate inventory of maintenance supplies, tools and spare parts.
  • Carries out necessary grounds work such as lawn mowing and watering, and snow removal as scheduled, keeping exits and walkways clear at all times.
  • Performs janitorial responsibilities as scheduled or required including garbage removal.
  • Makes general building repairs such as: touch up plastering, painting, and other similar work
  • Assists other departments in moving furniture, equipment and supplies, as requested.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility, trade/CSA legislation and the Maintenance Department
  • Participates in evaulatings care andor services provided by the Maintenance Department to residents under the facility Quality Assurance/Improvement Program.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Follows manufacturers instructions in the the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals.
  • Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Knowledgable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety.
  • Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures.
  • Respects residents rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Adheres to “Standards of Employee Conduct,” “Commitment to Residents”, “Bill of Rights”, and “Extendicare Quality Care Standards” Manitoba Health Standards and Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Works closely and cooperates with other staff and residents. Maintains good working relationships with other departments.
  • Participates on committees, meetings as required.
  • Responsible for the development and upgrading of hisher knowledge and skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
