Job Description

Parks Branch is responsible for managing provincial parks, ecological reserves, and the Canadian Heritage Rivers System for the long-term benefit of Manitobans and the environment. These lands are intended to conserve unique natural, cultural, and heritage features and resources, ecosystems while providing recreational and educational opportunities for citizens and visitors to Manitoba.The Manitoba government has a comprehensive benefits package which includes extended health care, health spending account, dental care, vision care, long term disability insurance, group life insurance and defined pension plan.   • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Class 5 Manitoba Drivers License
  • Must be able to travel and stay overnight as required
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required
Qualifications:Essential:
  • Graduation from a post secondary resource based or public administration program with several years of advanced management experience in a significant multi-faceted program or operation, or an approved equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Management experience including staff supervision, resource planning and allocation, coaching, mentoring and developing staff.
  • Experience in budget preparation, financial management and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment including building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare authority seeking documents for decision makers.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to demonstrate sound judgement and resolve complex issues.
  • Experience in the management of effective Workplace Health and Safety and public risk management programs.
  • Strong political acumen with the ability to manage confidential, controversial and politically sensitive material and situations.
Desired:
  • Knowledge of the planning and evaluation of park programs and infrastructure.
Duties:As a member of Conservation and Climates Parks Branch management team, the Park Region Manager is responsible for leading park operations and development activities within the western park region. The Park Region Manager leads the priorities and activities of park operations and is directly responsible for managing and directing the resources within the region. This includes serving as the employing authority and allocating departmental staff and program operating expenses. This position is accountable for the program areas delivered in the region and ensures those programs are delivered in coordination with the planning and policy direction of the branch.
