Job Description

General InformationRecreation Leader - Level 3Program Leader & Youth Centre***More than one (1) position may be filledUnder the general direction of the Recreation Hub Programmer, Recreation Leaders are required to lead and oversee the activities of the Recreation Department. Recreation programs and activities promote the wellbeing of the participants in an active, fun & safe environment. Activities could include but are not limited to; Youth Centre leader, fitness, arts & culture program leader.This position is currently primary at the Youth Centre; however has the ability to accommodate additional recreation programs & events. The Youth Centre hours of operation are Monday-Friday 3:45-9:00 p.m., Saturday 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 – 7:00 p.m.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Act as City of Brandon representative for participants and instructors of Recreation programs.
  • Plan, supervise and participate in program activities under the direction of the Recreation Hub Programmer;
  • Provide leadership and direction to participants and show enthusiasm;
  • Provide a safe, cooperative and enjoyable environment for program participants;
  • Adjust program activities to accommodate a variety of group sizes, interests and participant skill levels;
  • Implement the evaluation plan and submit a final report on the program;
  • Ensure public health guidelines are adhered to at all times; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work successfully independently and in a team atmosphere;
  • Able to problem-solve, plan and organize daily activities;
  • Excellent public relations skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to positively communicate and interact with people of all ages; and
  • Energetic, creative and relates positively with children.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Emergency First Aid/Level C CPR (to be obtained upon hire);
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Registry Check;
  • Related experience in recreation, programming, education, instruction or sports background;
  • Previous experience working with children; and
  • Previous experience working in a diverse setting.
