Job Description

Keller Developments is seeking to hire a safety officer for its group of companies.

  • Onboard new employees and conduct safety orientation
  • Ensure that there is constant and proficient communication regarding safety between all levels of management and employees.
  • Ensure that management is informed of any safety requirements, tickets expiring and new or altered safety procedures. Schedule and complete training with employees as required. Maintain records of all employee training.
  • Ensure that all provincial legislature and Work Safe regulations are up to date and followed at all worksites.
  • Maintain safety records for each job site and regularly visit each job site to enforce safety policies.
  • Complete employee write-ups for safety violations. Enforce safety policies as needed.
  • Facilitate on behalf of employer WCB claims as needed
  • Complete investigations and reports for incidents and near misses
  • Oversee the Health and Safety Committee and conduct quarterly meetings
  • Manage emergency response plans for sites
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required
  • Follow all requirements of the company Health and Safety Program and support a safe work environment
  • Responsible for the adherence of all company policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to site employees and contractors about company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Work with HSE team writing and updating procedures, safe work practices and emergency response plans
  • Maintain inspection and reporting system for all company vehicles and equipment
  • Oversee subcontractor safety requirements and agreements
Education, experience, skills:
  • Experience in a construction safety position or equivalent is required
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or Safety Officer Certificate is required
  • NCSO certificate would be an asset, but not required
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint) an asset
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail is required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is required
  • Effective time management skills are required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Able to enforce policies to ensure safety of workers and sites. Assertive personality.
  • Drivers license a requirement.
