Job Description

Penticton is a vibrant, innovative, healthy waterfront City focused on sustainability, community, and economic opportunity. At the City of Penticton, our goal is to serve our residents, businesses, and visitors through good governance, partnership and the delivery of effective community-focused services.The City of Penticton is looking to fill the full-time seasonal assignment of Works Maintenance II (E.O.I) in our Public Works team. The Public Works department keeps our community safe by managing the roads in our community, the parks and cemetery, as well as collecting our garbage and recycling and providing storm-water drainage to help prevent flooding. To help support these services, as well as those delivered by other departments, the Public Works department also manages the City #39;s fleet of vehicles.The Works Maintenance II position reports to the Roads and Drainage Supervisor and provides skilled labor assistance as required to all Public Works crews.Key Dutiesamp; Responsibilities

  • Public Works duties including, assisting all work crews, administering the street crack and crevice weed control program, sidewalk inspection program, etc.
  • Operates equipment including but not limited to: pickup truck, aerial bucket truck, mobile crane truck, portable generator, cut saw, jackhammer, chainsaw, weed-eater, backpack blower, tampers, plate compactor, compressor, and other various small hand tools.
Required Knowledge, Abilitiesamp; Skills:
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret construction plans, specifications and written instructions.
  • Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively plan and prioritize assigned tasks and duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal with people in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to work co-operatively or independently, problem solve and exercise sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Education, Trainingamp; Experience:
  • Completion of Secondary School or equivalent.
  • Valid B.C. Driver #39;s License (with Air Brake Endorsement preferred).
  • Valid Traffic Control Person Certification considered an asset.
  • Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Applicator or Assistant Applicator Certificates considered an asset.
  • Valid Forklift Certification considered an asset.
  • Safety and related training certificates including WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, Fall Arrest, are preferred.
