Other activities include assisting in negotiating collective agreements, coordinating the activities of the negotiations team, drafting the final agreements, conducting and providing support in the interpretation and application of the collective agreements. This position is responsible for the management of the grievance process, consultation with client groups and carrying out investigations. The Labour Relations Specialist also provides consultation services to Supervisors, Managers and Principals in all matters regarding discipline, performance issues, respectful workplace and harassment, organizational structure and reorganization. This position supports the work of the Human Resources Department.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience:Minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent certification specializing in Human Resources is required. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a multi-union and public sector environment is preferred. CHRP or CHRL equivalent designation required.SKILLS REQUIRED:Knowledge of:Comprehensive knowledge in labour relations and human resources practices and processesThorough understanding of the Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Education Act, School Boards Collective Bargaining Act, Ontario College of Teachers Act and Human Rights CodeSpecific knowledge of arbitrations and how collective agreements are appliedCompetencies:Ability to work effectively with all levels of management, union and maintain relationships and provide expertiseDemonstrated leadership and success with negotiations, conflict resolution and problem-solvingExcellent research, documentation, presentation and communication skills – both written and verbal with attention to detail and accuracyAbility to take initiative, use judgment and work independently in a fast pace environment to meet timelinesProficiency with computers and social media (e.g. Microsoft suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Facebook, etc.)Ability to coordinate processes (e.g. grievance process)Range of interpersonal skills to perform activities such as coaching, interviewing, communicating complex information, counselling, listening, influencing others, performing conflict resolution and negotiatingBRIEF LIST OF DUTIES:Coaches and provides advice, direction and support to Supervisors, Principals, and/or Managers on all labour relations matters (e.g. Performance issues, discipline, workplace harassment) and advises on appropriate course of actionConducts workplace investigationsNegotiations - Conducts research, prepares briefs, performs analyses and assists in the development of the Board’s proposals and counter-proposals, prepares final agreementAdministers the implementation of changes to the collective agreements, such as amending processes and procedures, and educating stakeholders on changesProvides support in the application and interpretation of the collective agreements, board policies/procedures and practicesManages the grievance process for assigned groups, prepares case submissions, drafts memorandums of settlements and implements settlements;Provides support and expertise in the arbitration processLeads the joint labour-management process to ensure areas of concern and/or conflict are identified and provides follow-through to dispute resolutionProvides ongoing labour relations advice, consultation and training to Supervisors, Principals and ManagersAll applicants will be considered, however, only those to be interviewed will be contacted.No late submissions will be considered.Quick Apply
