Clients include those who aredemonstrating responsive behaviours associated with dementia, delirium, mental health distress, addictions, or otherneurological conditions.Working in collaboration with the MRT Registered Nurse, MRT Registered Practical Nurse, and LTCH staff,the PSW will enhance the quality of life for clients by participating in the assessment of persons exhibiting responsive behaviours;providing direct care and support; identifying triggers and successful strategies, modelling and assisting the longterm care hometo incorporate identified successful strategies into the client’s daily plan of care in order to decrease the frequency, severity, andrisk associated with responsive behaviours. The PSWs work is conducted in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Visionand Values of Providence Care.Education & Experience: Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Certification as a PersonalSupport Worker as per therequirements of the Long-TermCare Homes Act andRegulations(equivalent education andexperience may be considered )Training in / Knowledge of GPA,U-First or willingness to receivesuch trainingPrior experience working witholder clients in long-term caresettings or other health-caresettings who exhibit responsivebehaviors – minimum twoyears preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill working with individuals with various types of dementia,
delirium, mental health, addictions, other neurological conditions and those whoexperience responsive behaviours and/or an acute behavioural change
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the requirements of the Long-Term Care Homes Act
and Regulations with a thorough understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights
  • Ability to contribute to the delivery of non-pharmacological or psycho-social behavioural
care approaches in a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the unique application of person and caregiver directed
care strategies for this population
  • Demonstrates an understanding/appreciation for the “team” philosophy, person and family
centered care
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills/ability as they relate to the challenges of managing
responsive behaviors
  • Ability to implement best practice related to dementia, delirium, and mental health issues,
including the effect on the resident, family member, and caregiver within the scope ofpractice for PSWs
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a team member through collaboration, respect, and
effective communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and change initiatives
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to health and safety policies, procedures
and applicable legislation
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills including ability to use electronic communication
devices
  • Bilingual (English and French) preferred
  • Satisfactory criminal-record and vulnerable-sector screens
  • Satisfactory driver’s abstract
