The Personal Support Worker and Resident Care Attendant reports to the Director of Resident Care and Registered Staff, and shall provide nursing care to all residents where necessary. The Personal Support Worker and Resident Care Attendant is required to assist in planning and co-ordinating activities necessary in the nursing care unit and shall work closely with Director of Resident Care, Attending Physician, where necessary, Food Services and Activation. Qualifications 1) Unlicensed health care workers may give medications, provided they are trained and meet requirements of residence medication administration policy. 2) Experience in geriatrics and rehabilitation. 3) Good physical and mental health and free from communicable disease. 4) Certified in CPR and First Aid recommended. 5) Medication Administration Course if giving out medications. (#4 and #5 – encouraged but not necessarily a requirement. If they are required, then residence would be responsible for paying for courses). 6) Knowledge of the nursing process and nursing diagnosis if attendant is providing nursing duties. 7) Good communication skills. 8) Familiar with Commitment to Residents and “Code of Ethics†as set out by ORCA. 9) Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures. Functions 1) Assess residents conditions by recognizing signs and symptoms and report same to Director of Resident Care and Attending Physician if necessary. 2) Provide nursing care, if applicable, in accordance with established policies, physicians order and nursing standards. 3) Responsible for safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys if responsible for medications administration. 4) Responsible for administration of medications and treatments as ordered by residents physicians within his/her limitations as set by the College of Nurses if Attendant administers medication. 5) Participates in staff development, safety quality assurance, environment/ infection control programs. 6) Deals courteously with staff, residents, resident families and visitors. 7) Takes prospective residents and other interested persons on tours of the retirement residence. 8) Completes daily, weekly and monthly duties as per policy. 9) Assist with serving meals and supervise when necessary. 10) Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures. 11) Knowledgeable of the Landlord and Tenant Act under Residents Rights Act . 12) Completing nursing documentation if applicable as per residence policies and guidelines. 13) Answer call bells and assist where necessary. 14) Assist residents with personal hygiene and bathing as per schedule and when necessary. 15) Adhere to all established policies and procedures. 16) Ordering and receiving medications, if applicable. 17) Assist with arranging transportation for residents. 18) Report all accidents or incidents involving residents, families, visitors, personnel to Director of Resident Care. 19) Assisting with monthly Blood pressures and weights, as assigned. 20) Teaches good health habits. 21) Assist residents with ambulation where necessary. 22) Provides emergency first aid / nursing care until appropriate medical care is available. 23) Assisting with admission and discharge of residents when required. 24) Assist with maintaining accurate records for extra charges if applicable. 25) And other duties as delegated by the Director of Resident Care. 26) Aware of roles and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and SafetyActJob Types: Permanent, CasualSalary: From $17.50 per hourBenefits:
