Job Description

Aventus has evolved and grown since inception by being involved and responsible for the creation of thousands of mid-rise and high-rise homes in successful new communities.The OpportunityReporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance will assume a hands-on role in the day-to-day and long-term financial management of Construction and Development projects. The successful candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual who is able to work independently and in a team environment. This is a dynamic, challenging, and visible role that will grow in scope and responsibility over time. The Director will play a key role advancing strategic initiatives for the company, while working closely with the CFO, accounting team, and other key internal/external stakeholders. General Summary: The Director of Finance will plan the organization’s financial strategy with the goal of achieving full financial control and sustainable growth. The Director of Finance is a critical leadership role and a key partner to the senior leadership team. This role is primarily accountable for company’s constructionamp; development projects (including administrative, financial, and risk management) and treasury measurement.Responsibilities include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results of constructionamp; development projects.DELIVERABLES

  • Evaluate and negotiate potential acquisitions including proposed debt and project structure.
  • Analyze and review every facet of construction and development projects, including project return, forecasting, and take the appropriate actions to achieve profit improvement on every element of the business.
  • Liaise with private and institutional lenders to secure financing and oversee treasury function for all companies.
  • Responsible for all construction and development project accounting, internal planning and control, financial reporting and budgeting
  • Supervise and oversee the accounting for the construction and development projects including developing financial policies, practices, systems, internal controls, and procedures for these projects.
  • Understand and analyze financial performance of construction and development projects.
  • Interpret and present financial results of the construction and development projects to the Executive Team to establish and monitor key operating ratios to assess project performance, continually evaluating and making recommendations for improvement and sound financial strategies.
  • Liaise with general counsel to address legal matters and document review.
  • Lead system improvements to automate and streamline existing financial processes.
  • Represent the organization in important external business relationships ensuring the Organization’s image is reflected in the most positive and desired manner.
  • Build strong networks and present the organization’s value proposition with pose, passion, and purpose.
  • Complete any additional projects which may be assigned to meet the needs of the business or CFO/Executive team.

  • Ability to multi-task and embrace change. This position requires the candidate to “wear many hats” and be open to an environment where change occurs frequently.
  • Highly organized, manages time well and brings projects in on time. Strong communication skills and will be adept at explaining complex ideas and concepts in simple terms and ensuring open lines of communication throughout the organization.
  • Must be a skilled and direct communicator, with well-developed verbal, written and presentation ability. This leader is not afraid to ask new or tough questions, challenge the status quo in the best interests of the business and is skilled at persuading experienced managers to think about the business differently.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting or Finance
  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with relevant industry experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience.
  • Previous accounting construction and/or property development roles preferred.
  • 2 years banking experience is considered an asset
