Join us.AECOM is seeking a Junior Building Performance Consultant to join AECOM’s architectural design practice Buildings and Places. This position can be based out of our Burnaby, BC location.The Junior Buildings Performance Consultant will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which works to provide High Performance design leadership and consulting on sustainable buildings and communities with projects ranging from the design of net zero buildings to the sustainable planning of major global eco-cities.Someone with experience in the green building/design sector including technical experience in energy simulation and/or parametric design would be strong asset. The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:High performance building modelling and evaluation including but not limited to ASHRAE 90.1/NECB energy modeling, local code calculations, daylight simulations, parametric design modeling and embodied carbon calculations.Design and modeling of net zero buildings together with supporting clients on a range of decarbonization strategies to meet their goals.Work with the Sustainability Consultant and project team to develop sustainability strategies to meet project’s sustainability targetSupport to facilitate submissions to green building certification systemsReview of mechanical drawings and mechanical equipment submittals, electrical drawings and/ or architectural drawings and specifications against high performance goals and sustainability certification criteriaPreparing and presenting results and professional recommendations, in report or graphical format, to clients and teamsWrite reports communicating certification, energy modelling findings, and design recommendations for achieving sustainability/energy targetsConducting research and technical analysis, as required, for projects and reporting on findingsWorking or leading others in a multi-disciplinary team to undertake analysis and provide feedback Supporting on energy planning, resiliency and other projects relating to high performance buildings and communities undertaken by the teamMust Have Skills/Experience (Including any required Certifications): Bachelor #39;s degree required in Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or a related fieldPreferred QualificationsMasters #39; degree preferred in engineering, planning, or sustainability-related fieldProfessional Engineer licenseExperience and knowledge of energy simulation software (e.g., IES, EnergyPlus, Energy Pro, eQuest, DesignBuilder, OpenStudio, Trane Trace). Use of IES preferred or a desire to learn. Knowledge and experience undertaking detailed building energy modeling.Knowledge, experience, or interest in working with parametric design workflows (e.g., Dynamo, Grasshopper, JePlus).Understanding of high performance and zero carbon building principles and technologiesKnowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and in particular, Excel for data analytics.Experience in or interest in learning other building performance analysis tools (e.g., RETScreen, Ladybug, Diva, WUFI, Tally, Cove, Insight 360, Therm)Experience in embodied carbon calculations, life-cycle assessments, and LCA software (e.g., Athena, OneClick)Experience with life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) calculationsExperience in building design software such as Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, etc.Experience with or interest in learning building energy codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, NECB, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building, Passive House)Knowledge of or interest in sustainability assessment systems (such as LEED, Green Globes, and BREEAM)Additional certifications/licenses (e.g., ASHRAE BEMP, CEM, LEED AP, WELL AP, ENV SP, CPHD)Knowledge of any programming languages (Python, R, C++, etc.)Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervisionAbility to communicate problems clearly and simply to clients, engineers, and architectsStrong problem solving, analytical and research skillsAbility to balance various project and company responsibilities and deadlines while maintaining professionalism and quality.
