Our team of more than 35 full-time employees consists of professional engineers, designers, drafters, and administrators, and takes great pride in our entrepreneurial culture.Since 1979 we have provided a comprehensive range of industrial power and control engineering services - including power system studies, design development, feasibility studies, procurement, construction support and commissioning. Lex has designed over 80 high voltage substations, numerous power distribution systems within plant facilities, and several hundred kilometres of transmission and distribution lines. Our market sector includes public and private utilities, heavy industry, educational institutions, the forest sector, mines, oilamp; gas, ports, city works, airports, bulk material handling, and independent power producers. Lex Engineering is part of Quanta Services Company. We are looking for a Junior Electrical/Design Engineer EIT to join our electrical design group in Burnaby, BC. You will work in a team setting and participate in a wide variety of design for underground and overhead design projects, including transmission, distribution and substation design and power system studies. You may also be asked to work closely with other Lex staff in the preparation of engineering design packages not related directly to power systems. • Basic knowledge of HV systems and associated HV equipment.
• Work under the direction of a Principal Engineer or the designate on all aspects of high-voltage substation physical layout design.
• Understand and apply all applicable codes, industry and client standards for high voltage substation design.
• Prepare Ampacity drawings, site plan drawings, substation layout drawings, elevation drawings, structure and equipment grounding detail drawings, cable layout drawings, and equipment connection module drawings.
• Interface with other engineering disciplines to ensure overall design conformance is accomplished.
• Review engineered outputs to ensure compliance with project defined scopes and client requirements.
• Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor data.
• Interface with senior personnel to resolve potential technical and project issues.
• Assist in compiling and maintaining internal engineering standards and work practices.

Education, Trainingamp; Experience

• The successful candidate should possess a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institute.
• Registered as an EIT with EGBC or APEGA.

Skillsamp; Abilities

• Knowledge of the Microsoft office software suite of programs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an attention to detail are essential.
• Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
• Entry Level Position. Previous experience working on HV Substation designs for Utilities in North America would be considered an asset.
• Previous exposure to drafting software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD would be an asset
• Class 5 Drivers license required
• Eligible to work in Canada

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday, 8-hour days
