Amgen #39;s Biologics Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative scientist to join Discovery Protein Science team at our Amgen British Columbia site. As a scientist within the Membrane Protein Science group, you will work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and support both large molecule and small molecule drug discovery across diverse disease areas.Key Responsibilities:

  • Design strategies for recombinant production of fit-for-purpose membrane protein targets, perform protein purification and analytical characterization to support hit identification and validation efforts
  • Troubleshoot and optimize protein engineering, expression, purification and formulation
  • Directly leverage cryo-EM to pursue structural studies of membrane protein drug targets utilizing their expertise in the gene-to-structure process from construct design, data acquisition through structure refinement; help drive the integration of structural biology into aspect of Protein Design, large molecule therapeutic discovery and screening
  • Drive innovative science and technology development in the membrane protein science arena
  • Present regular updates to functional and/or cross-functional project teams; present scientific findings at internal and external meetings/conferences

The professional we seek is an individual with these qualifications.Basic Qualifications:Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related disciplineOrMaster #39;s degree and 4 years of related experienceOrBachelor #39;s degree and 6 years of related experiencePreferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. with 2+ years post-degree experience from a leading institution or biotechnology company
  • Expertise in membrane protein expression, protein biochemistry, biophysics and analytics
  • Cryo-EM structural biology experience in membrane proteins is a strong plus
  • Strong scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills as evidenced by high impact scientific publications
  • Highly motivated to work in a fast-paced environment and forge productive collaborations with partner functions
  • Excellent communication skills
