Animal Care Solutions is seeking full-time Animal Care Assistants (Contract: January to May 2022) to provide animal care support services at the Calgary Zoo. The successful candidate will join a team of passionate and experienced individuals to provide animal care services to the animal collection of the Calgary Zoo.Qualifications:- A Bachelors degree in Zoology (or equivalent) or current enrollment in a bachelors degree programo Or, a Registered Animal Health Technologist- Expected to have a knowledge in the care of zoological and wildlife species- A strong animal background or working with animals would be a strong asset- A valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers licence- Must be able to meet the specific requirements of the position- Ability to work inside and outside- Proven experience working with success in a team environment- Prepared to follow instruction with a can-do attitude- Ability to lift 35kg’s and work in a physically demanding environmentThe successful candidate will provide animal care services at the Calgary Zoo as needed across the different areas of the Zoo. The tasks of the position may include but not limited to;- Observation of assigned animals with routine objective reporting in animal records- Provide animal diets in an appropriate and timely manner- Maintain complete records on animals attended too- Follow and implementation of protocols on animal feeding and enrichment- Ensure all work areas and equipment are up to and above standards for functionality and cleanliness- Ensure all animal areas are clean, maintained and perform animal husbandry procedures- There is an expectation to work weekends, holidays and potentially evening and on call services- Provide additional services as requiredCompensation:- $19-21/hr (Dependent on experience)- Opportunities for growth and advancementAnimal Care Solutions is part of the Animal Care Centre of Strathmore.
