Job Description

The Assistant Manager, Core Lab, is a vital role within DynaLIFE leadership. The assistant manager is responsible for day-to-day supervision, oversight, and direction of the Core Lab operations. They provide leadership in the department through effective communication and ethical decision making. The position supports the Manager of Core Lab by assisting with coordination of appropriate resources to provide the department with a focus on quality, process improvement and patient care.Major Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage the Core Lab DSC department through resource planning and employee performance management
  • Customer service responsibilities including:
    • developing and maintaining cooperative and positive working relationships with all key stakeholders,
    • providing the highest possible service to patients, physicians, and coworkers;
    • ensuring critical results are phoned within the guidelines as established by the CPSA
  • Incident management including investigation and sign off of cases in the Quality Incident Management system.
  • Ensure safety policies and practices are followed as per established protocols.
  • Liaise with other employees and departments as required.
  • After hours on call support for staff as required
  • Ensure appropriate, effective, and timely communications with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Administrative duties as assigned.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting of workload statistics, cost-per-reportable numbers and positivity rates.
  • Prioritizing high volumes of work and multiple conflicting demands.
  • Overseeing standard operating procedures and work processes.
  • Monitoring staffing levels and reassigning as appropriate
  • Provide oversight to the department in the absence of the Manager as assigned.
  • Attend organizational meetings as required.
  • Support the training of students, residents, and other healthcare professionals as assigned.
  • Arrange for continuing education opportunities within the department
  • Participation in a variety of external initiatives which may include: Provincial Disciplines, Local test operation groups, Zonal committees, Steering committees, NAIT advisory and curriculum committees and various task forces.
  • Ensure departmental adherence to all relevant requirements of applicable regulatory bodies including: Excise Canada, Transport Canada, Workplace Occupational Health and Safety, Health Professions Act, Health Information Act, Privacy Legislation and HSAA collective agreement.
Required Skills

  • Highly developed computer skills and working knowledge of a variety of software systems, interfaces, middleware, Microsoft products and current Laboratory Information Systems

Required Experience
  • 3 - 5 years of laboratory experience.
  • 1 - 2 years of leadership/supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of HSAA collective agreement preferred
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures preferred
  • Biohazard safety training and WHMIS training preferred
  • Working knowledge of CPSA and CAP accreditation standards and guidelines.
  • Awareness of CLSI guidelines and standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Post secondary diploma or degree in a related field preferred.
  • Current CMLTA Medical Laboratory Technologist certification required
