At Lafarge Canada Inc., safety comes first, collaboration matters and diversity is celebrated with people who share our desire to continually make our materials better.Do you have the drive, the skills, and the passion to join usOverview:Lafarge is recruiting an Automation Specialist for our Cement Plant located in Exshaw Alberta.This position reports to the Senior Automation Specialist and works in coordination with the Electrical Maintenance and Process teams.Responsibilities:Safety:Must be a safety leaderEnsure safe practices by coworkers, employees and contractors in all areas of work in his or her area of respoonsibilityCompliance with all safety policies, procedures and applicable lawsReport on accidents / incidents assuring follow up as per the Exshaw procedurePersonnel:Supervise / manage employees and contractors (when required) - including:Ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures and applicable laws - e.g. Collective Agreement, O.T., payroll, absenteeism, meals, etc.Managing Employee and Contractor performanceEmployee Development through being a mentor/coachAssist in the development of daily and weekly electrical work schedules, ensuring work is completed in a timely manner as per plant priorities.Follow-up on completed work to ensure equipment operability and job site cleanliness.Completeness and accuracy of equipment history records.Communication with pertinent operations departments.Deal with and find resolution to equipment related problems in the plant.Automation:Exposure to multiple PLC platforms. Preference given to candidates with Schneider (Modicon) PLC experience. Siemens Step 7 and Allen-Bradley Control/Guard Logix considered an asset.Ability to interpret and program in IEC 61131-3 Programming Languages (Function Block, SFC, Structured Text and Ladder)Experience programming and maintaining SCADA systems. iFIX and Ignition experience preferred.A working knowledge of OPC – Servers, Clients and Tunnellers – Understanding of DCOM and its settings.Strong computer programming skills – Preference given to Visual Studio & Visual Studio.NET experience (VB, C#, C++). Java considered an asset.Industrial Networking knowledge, multiple field bus (DeviceNET, Profibus, RIO etc)Cisco Networking – Switch maintenance, troubleshooting and programming experience required.A working knowledge of VMWare ESXI (Vsphere Hypervisor, vMotion and Replication) required.A working knowledge of Historian systems (IP21 & ABB cpmPlus Knowledge Manager preferred)Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams.Previous exposure to PID control loops, design and maintenance (tuning).A working knowledge of process measurement instruments (flow, pressure, temperature, level, torque, position etc), HART protocol and demonstrated proficiency in parameterization of these instruments in PACTWare.Knowledge of multiple continuous weighing systems (Siemens Milltronics, Schenk Accurate, Merrick) considered an asset.Previous experience with Alarm Management and High Performance HMI principles.Electrical:Practical electrical knowledge (motor starters, contactors, fuses, overloads, field push buttons, disconnects, transformers, breakers, conductor sizing etc).A working knowledge of the CEC.Working practical knowledge of power distribution, ability to interpret single line diagrams and safely isolate electrical equipment in a live operating plant.Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.VFD and DC Drive control (Allen Bradley, Schneider, Toshiba, Yaskawa – V/Hz, SVC and FVC control)Knowledge of Intelligent Motor Control Centers (Schneider TeSysT and Allen-Bradley E3 Plus)Experience with motor and substation protection relays considered an asset (GE UR and Multilin series preferred).AutoCAD – ability to produce and maintain electrical drawings.Ability to supervise a group of 7 hourly electricians as required.Previous experience working as part of an electrical crew considered an asset.Qualifications:Educational Requirements:Graduate of Electrical Engineering / Engineering Technologist program.Other Credentials/Assets:Must be proficient in SAPHold Safety as a paramount value. Possess a strong personal safety record and ability to lead by example.Self-starter with the ability to autonomously drive improvements with minimal supervision.Participate in the 24x7/365 after-hours electrical and automation on-call rotation (5 week rotation for 1 week at a time).Strong communication skills.
