About MRUFounded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. Currently, more than 14,000 credit students choose from 12 bachelor degrees and 36 majors.Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuutina and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation.About the Department of AviationMount Royal University’s Aviation diploma program has been in operation since 1970. The two-year program operates eight aircraft at Springbank Airport along with three simulators. Students enter the program with a Private Pilot Licence and graduate with a Commercial Pilot Licence and Multi-IFR in addition to a Diploma in Aviation.About the RoleThe incumbent is responsible for scheduling students, instructors, aircraft, and simulators. The incumbent will also assist the Chief Flight Instructor in ensuring operational control on daily activities as per Transport Canadas requirements. The role is primarily Scheduler, with some associated Dispatch responsibilities.The schedule is a fixed weekly schedule that begins at 7 a.m. and includes weekends.This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.ResponsibilitiesScheduling

  • Plan and organize student flight and simulator training sessions taking into consideration student training requirements, aircraft, instructor and simulator availability, aircraft and simulator “unserviceabilities”, weather conditions and general time frames. (Periods of poor weather, for example, imply greater simulator usage or the rescheduling of flights).
  • Update and control Student Progress records to ensure students are on track with the training plan in a timely and logical progression towards fulfilling graduation requirements
  • Monitor that all scheduled flight missions are completed. Investigate and reschedule any missed missions.
  • Monitor and confirm that all flying courses are completed to meet graduation requirements
  • Coordinate aircraft maintenance with the Person Responsible for Maintenance (PRM)
  • Communicate with Chief Flight Instructor regarding scheduling needs
  • Assist the Chief Flight Instructor with creating the Flight Instructors schedules
Dispatch
  • Track and monitor pilot licenses, Transport Canada medicals, and currencies
  • Monitor aircraft ETA’s as required by Transport Canada. Initiate Emergency Procedures in the event of an overdue aircraft
  • Assist the Chief Flight Instructor with operational control, confirming dispatch procedure followed by pilots
Qualifications
  • Two year diploma from a University or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience scheduling preferred
  • Experience in aviation preferred
  • Proficient in use of computers, Microsoft, Google Drive
  • Knowledgeable and adheres to applicable safety systems, policies, statements and processes
  • Able to work in a busy environment, with multiple competing priorities and timelines
  • Effective communicator
  • Adaptable, can manage constant changes
