Position OverviewThe Department of Consumables in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Biostatistician.The Biostatistician will be part of the UCVM research support team and receives directions from the Associate Dean, Research (Infrastructure and Support). This position exists to provide biostatistical support and training to Faculty members and their research teams in the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM), undertake biostatistical analysis on research projects as well as to provide general statistical support for the wider activities of UCVM. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated candidate interested in applying their biostatistical skills to support a wide range of basic and applied research projects as well as veterinary educational activities. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine encompasses a diversity of fundamental, applied, and clinical research programs which require biostatistical support.The position may occasionally be required to work outside regular hours, on an as needed basis. Some travel to the SpyHill Campus will be necessary.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

• Provide biostatistical support and training to principal investigators, research staff, and trainees
• Undertake biostatistical consultation and analysis on specific research projects
• Provide statistical and computational tools for biological- and veterinary clinical-based activities
• Assist in the development and delivery of biostatistics workshops for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
• Undertake biostatistical analysis on research and scholarly projects on a fee-for-service basis (which can provide the opportunity for co-authorship on publications)
• In collaboration with investigators, contribute to grant planning, writing, and manuscript preparation (which can provide the opportunity for co-authorship on publications)
• Liaise with biostatistics groups in other Faculties as well as central computing support at the University of Calgary
• Provide statistical support and analysis for outcomes assessments in UCVM, such as for admissions processes and analysis of educational outcomes assessment
• Demonstrate communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
• Maintains confidentiality, adheres to safety regulations, and is flexible in providing assistance in other areas as required
• Interacts with facility/service users and lab members in a pleasant and respectful manner when providing assistance
• Foster a positive and productive work environment
• Undertake other duties associated with biostatical support as directed by the Associate Dean, Research
• Be familiar with the University of Calgarys "statement on Principles of Conduct" and conducts themselves according to these principles in all situations when representing UCVM or while acting on behalf of the University

Qualifications / Requirements:

• A Bachelors degree and a MSc or PhD in a relevant area of biostatistics with approximately 2-5 years of experience in a recognized research environment
• Good understanding of concepts and principles of biomedical, veterinary and clinical research
• Coding proficiency eg. R, Python or other interpreted programming language
• Familiarity with common statistical software, such as SPSS, Graphpad, SAS, and R
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to facilitate interaction with scientists working in various disciplines (fluency in English is necessary)
• The ability to work independently as well as demonstrated teamwork skills, strong organizational, management and excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent time management skills
