The emphasis of instruction is on establishing safety, building relationships, teaching self-regulation strategies, problem solving strategies, social skills development and academic engagement. Students in the Bridges Class are part of the school community and participate in larger class settings as they develop and practice new skills.The successful candidate will be supporting approximately 10 students in Grades 1 – 6 in the Bridges classroom at Rosemont School. Students are identified with severe externalizing emotional/behavioural diagnoses. Students may also have co-occurring diagnosis such as moderate cognitive disabilities, ADHD, FAS, OCD, and ODD, as well as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate proven success in deflecting, re-directing and supporting severe emotional and behavioral outbursts. This may include physical aggression, in addition to challenging non-verbal responses to triggers caused by emotional and cognitive challenging tasks. Experience with severe behaviours is critical to this position. Current TCI, or equivalent, is required.
