Job Description

Your Opportunity:Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a full time (1.0 FTE) board-certified/eligible Clinical Biochemist to work in General Chemistry, Electrophoresis, and other areas of Chemistry such as Endocrine Testing as needed at the Diagnostic & Scientific Centre. Candidates must possess a strong track record of collegiality with co-workers and exemplify interest in teaching and clinical research. Experience with Roche instrumentation and middleware is a major plus. APL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services and delivers all publicly funded laboratory services in Southern Alberta. APL South Sector has an annual chemistry test volume of >40,000,000, and includes the clinical chemistry laboratories at all hospitals and health care centers throughout central and southern Alberta, as well as the comprehensive laboratory services provided in the academic hub laboratory located in the city of Calgary. Job Summary & Responsibilities Each Clinical Biochemist takes direction from, and reports to the Section Chief, South Sector, Clinical Biochemistry, who in turn reports to the Medical Director, South Sector and the DPLM Department Head. Clinical Biochemists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and quality assurance standards, and must actively participate in teaching. Experience with Roche chemistry systems and middleware, electrophoresis and endocrine testing would be an asset. Required Qualifications:The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate (PhD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related disciplines, and a current certification (or eligibility) by the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent (e.g. American Board of Clinical Chemistry).Additional Required Qualifications:Effective communication, skills in quality assurance, operational efficiency and appropriateness of care. Ability to work in a dynamic, changing environment that allows for delivery of quality service. Ability to balance service and quality imperative in a resource-sensitive environment.
