Reporting to the Director, Communications, your role as a Communications Strategist is key to promoting and enhancing Mount Royal University’s reputation. You will provide communications support to a variety of clients, including Continuing Education, as part of a larger team that advances the goals of the University through centralized and coordinated communications.You’re not only an accomplished communication professional with strong writing and editing skills, you’re also knowledgeable about all things web and social media as well as communications best practices.This role requires exceptional skills as a project manager and the ability to work hand-in-hand with others on the marketing communications team.MRU is committed to maintaining and further developing a diverse campus. All qualified applicants will be considered for this role.This position is a permanent full-time role working 35 hours per week.Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively to support clients’ communications needs
• Write news articles, social media posts, web stories, speeches and e-newsletters
• Contribute to broader communications plans
• Provide communications support for institutional events and projects
• Balance competing priorities while meeting and managing expectations
• Participate in crisis communications team
• Ability to synthesize complex information and present in as understandable and engaging content
• Ability to exercise diplomacy, tact and discretion when working with confidential/sensitive information
• Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
• Ability to set priorities, be detail-oriented and work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Five to eight years of increasingly responsible communications experience
• A highly organized self-starter, skilled storyteller and creative problem solver who exercises sound judgment with attention to detail
• Knowledge of CP style is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to adapt writing style for various purposes and for different publications and media requirements
• Experience with design template software such as Canva
• Preference is given to those with expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion
