Job Description

St. John Reception Centre15 - 12 Street NW, CalgaryOVERALL ACCOUNT ABILITY:The Consultant provides leadership, service, and support at the district level to foster the success of students arriving from the Ukraine. As a member of the Learning Services multi-disciplinary team, the Consultant supports school and personnel to meet Alberta Education requirements for the assessment, identification, and programming for students.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides leadership in partnership with Alberta Education.
  • Provides leadership within the Reception Centre; developing processes and coordination of functioning systems for funding, accountability, audits, and daily logistics.
  • Provides leadership to schools; collaborates with personnel to support quality programming.
  • Provides seamless service, in collaboration with Leaning Services personnel, to provide appropriate program recommendations to support teachers and support staff in fostering student success.
  • Coordinates and facilitates networking and Professional Growth opportunities for appropriate personnel both at a district and provincial level.
  • Consults with all stakeholders within in learning teams; including parents, teachers and school administrators district personnel and outside agencies.
  • Liaises with Alberta Education, institutions and other external agencies/groups that support programming as they relate to ELL students and their families.
  • Works collaboratively on Provincial/District initiatives, District priorities, emergent issues, assessment, differentiated instruction and ePD.
  • Provides support to families arriving from Ukraine in areas of assessment, parent, and community programs.
  • Advocate for Ukraine, ELL students by providing students, families, and staff personnel with supports in learning that are current, appropriate, and celebrated the cultural knowledge and experiences shared.
  • Experience in supporting the learning needs of students through all divisional grade levels.
  • Proficient in the areas of differentiated instruction, instructional planning, subject integration, and assessment as they apply to language acquisition specifically in Ukraine and Russian.
.QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Alberta professional teaching certificate
  • Evidence of specialized study or post graduate course work in the area of pedagogy preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the relevant grade levels
  • Experience and knowledge in the understanding and integration of technology into supporting success for students.
  • Valid Alberta drivers license and a vehicle in good operating condition
  • Current Leadership Pastoral Reference for the Catholic Educator Letter
  • Academic Expressive skillset in Ukraine and Russian
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies, resources and materials that support best practices in instructional programming for student success.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Educations mandates related to programming for students with diverse learning needs, including experience with the criteria, process of coding and related Learner Support Plan development and implementation.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
RESPONSIBLE TO:
  • In the performance of the above responsibilities, the Consultant, Learning Services, reports to Jennifer Orr, ELL Supervisor, Learning Services
LENGTH OF TERM:
  • This is a one temporary appointment and is based on the program needs of the district and Alberta Education, budget considerations and Learning Services department organization
