About WF Steel & Crane Ltd -We are a leading fabricator of structural steel and overhead cranes located south of Edmonton in the Nisku Industrial Park, Alberta. With a proven history that spans over 30 years, we are renowned for our safety, quality, service, and innovative approaches and we are proud to be a privately owned and operated Canadian company.The Position -An opportunity currently exists for a Crane Technician for our Calgary location. We are offering a competitive hourly rate, plus overtime and benefits. The position is based in Calgary, but travel WILL be required around Alberta.The Ideal Candidate -You will be involved in the manufacture, installation, modification and fault finding of electrical control systems on a variety of overhead cranes, hoists and other material handling equipment.While the position is largely an electrical role, a good understanding of mechanical engineering is an essential requirement, and once onsite you will need to call upon your skill base to solve problems autonomously.The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • A proven track record in a similar role.
  • Able to read schematic diagrams and blue prints
  • Competent electrical knowledge.
  • Experience with lifting equipment, their control systems and types.
  • Practical knowledge of inverters and electrical controls.
  • A good natural communicator.
  • Able to use basic computer/tablet programs.
  • A diligent worker who can operate within a team or autonomously as required.
  • A good problem solver.
  • An investigative nature and a general interest in engineering and its applications.
  • A keenness to continue training on new equipment and legislation.
  • A flexible approach to working out of hours, site work, and overnight stays etc.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • The ability to work in a safety sensitive role at all times.
  • Pass a pre-screen drug & alcohol test.
