The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation.About the Faculty of Continuing Education & ExtensionThe Faculty of Continuing Education & Extension at Mount Royal University invites applications for two part-time sessional appointments for the Winter 2021 semester.Mount Royal University has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years. We offer more than 1,000 courses and 100 certificate and diploma programs and have more than 50,000 course registrations each year. Our courses cover a wide range of sectors, including but not limited to social services, business, and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.About the RoleThe department is seeking two instructors with the ability to teach the following course:Name of Course: XMAT 25010 Massage Techniques IIDays & Times Offered:

  • Lectures: January 16th – April 17th, online
  • Hands-on practice: January 16th – April 17th, on campus, Monday / Wednesday 11:00am – 1:25pm
Course Description: Learn massage techniques and thermal applications to deliver an outcome-based therapeutic massage. The importance of developing tactile awareness is introduced by exploring individual muscles during a massage treatment. Utilize techniques that are most appropriate for the client’s needs and within the therapist’s scope of practice. Continue developing charting skills.Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Identify and use massage techniques and thermal applications on healthy bodies
  • Demonstrate palpation skills on specific soft tissue structures relevant to techniques
  • Conduct massage therapy treatment in a professional manner display effective time management communicate effectively with clients use variations in pressure to achieve appropriate therapeutic intent use the appropriate support and draping techniques, ensuring the comfort of the client
  • Demonstrate appropriate client positioning
ResponsibilitiesThis blended course has an online lecture and face to face hands-on practice components. The instructor is responsible for instruction using the approved curriculum; implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures; marking and submission of final course grades. The instructor will also be required to maintain regular contact with the Administration team and adhere to program policies and deadlines. Students in this class are part of the Massage Therapy Diploma Program.Qualifications
  • 2,200-hour Massage Therapy Diploma
  • Post-secondary credential in related field
  • Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
  • Proficient understanding of the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapists at Entry-to-Practice.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Teaching experience in an adult education environment is highly desirable.
  • Highly proficient with email, and e-learning
  • Proficiency with Google Applications and Blackboard learning platform is required
