Job Description

Full-Time PositionI’m For Kids Team is a Community-Based Early Intervention Program for children 2 ½ to 6 years with an inclusive, play-based approach to developmentally appropriate programming. Each child/ family becomes part of a Multi-Disciplinary Instructional Team consisting SLP, OT, PT, Educational Behaviour Specialist (EBS), Program Support Assistant (PSA) and Education Coordinator (EC).Each child receiving Early Childhood Services (ECS) funding is assigned a multidisciplinary team to meet all identified needs within an education and community based setting. Programming is provided within a variety of settings including preschools, daycares, children’s homes and other community settings. The Educational Behaviour Specialist provides assessment and treatment of social, emotional, behaviour, and regulation delays with a variety of medical diagnoses, developmental delays, and physical challenges. The Educational Behaviour Specialist will liaise closely with multidisciplinary team members to effectively administer programming for young children.Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with a supportive, progressive multi-disciplinary team
  • Observe and assess the behavioural and emotional needs of children and how it impacts the childs functioning within the classroom.
  • Tracking of behaviours
  • Participation in the development, review and implementation of Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) and Behaviour Support Plan
  • Interpret and communicate assessment information
  • Work collaboratively in community preschools and small groups settings with all team members including families, Preschool teachers, and Program Support Assistants (PSAs)
  • Team with families in the development of the IPP, review and monitor goals and progress throughout the year
  • Contributing to ongoing Program Support Assistant training
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skill
  • Be able to work independently AND as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in interpretation of diagnostic, psychometric and behavioural tests for children ages 2-6 who may be suspected to have a range of cognitive, behavioural, and/or developmental disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Have training in functional behaviour-based assessment, or in emotional/behavioural needs, such as being Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) is an asset.
  • The ability Administers level B assessments and interprets results (i.e. BASC, ABAS, and BRIEF) is an asset.
  • Have excellent time management skills
  • Have experience working with preschool-aged children
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the children and learning environment
Qualifications
  • Completion of Special Education Degree or a related/equivalent degree (Social work, Psychology, etc.) specialized training in functional behaviour-based assessment, or in emotional/behavioural needs.
  • Maintain a clear Criminal Record Check in the Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check.
  • Preference of two years’ experience working in the capacity of Educational Behaviour Specialist/ Behaviour consultant.
  • Preference of experience working with the early childhood population.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, public relations and teamwork skills.
  • Strong professional communication including verbal and written.
  • Initiative to set priorities and identify plans of action.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, parents, children, and community partners.
  • Have a valid drivers license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel
  • Lifting and carrying demands may be required; the ability to bend at the waist, stoop, twist, stand, walk and sit frequently. The ability to lift/push/pull/carry between 10 to 50 lbs
  • Current Police Information Check (Vulnerable sector, must be within the last 6 months)
