About MRUFounded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. In support of our belief that diversity in our faculty and staff enriches the work, learning and research experiences for the entire campus community, we strongly encourage members of the designated groups (women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and diverse sexual orientation and gender identities) to apply and self-identify.About the Department of Safety, Risk, and Employee WellnessThe department of Safety, Risk and Employee Wellness upholds the University’s commitment to provide a safe work environment for the Mount Royal community: students, employees, visitors and contractors.Our mission is to minimize risk levels, reduce hazards and improve well-being for our community.About the RoleReporting to the Manager, Employee Wellness, the Employee Wellness Advisor is accountable for providing a holistic approach to employee wellness including the implementation of health promotion programming and the management of routine occupational and non-occupational disability claims across the University. This position provides support to employees and managers, while maintaining strict levels of confidentiality.This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week and is eligible for the hybrid work program, working up to two days per week remotely.ResponsibilitiesHealth Promotion

  • Researches, designs and implements health promotion programs that integrate health promotion within University departments and operations
  • Engages with benefit providers to obtain trends/data that inform health promotion initiatives and partners with these providers to participate in the offerings they provide to enhance employee wellbeing
  • Collaborates with campus community stakeholders (e.g. EH&S, Wellness Services, Human Resources, Recreation, pertinent faculties) alongside the Manager, Employee Wellness to develop innovative and collaborative program offerings
  • Provides credible advice, consultation, education, and support to managers and employees in the areas of wellness
  • Prepares and maintains wellness resources and communication materials
  • Partners closely with the Marketing and Communications department to develop key messaging and health promotion campaigns
Disability Management
  • Manages routine STD, LTD and WCB claims for all employee groups across the University
  • Ensures our LTD benefit plan is accurately implemented and administered consistently. Also reviews third party correspondence and communicates decisions to employees and managers in a timely manner.
  • Corresponds with medical practitioners confirming that they have provided specific and accurate information regarding medical restrictions and limitations to inform the development of accommodation and return to work plans
  • Facilitates timely and effective return to work plans for routine STD, LTD and WCB claims, working collaboratively with employees, HR colleagues, leaders, unions/associations, and the disability benefits administrators and providers
Other duties as assignedQualifications
  • 3-5 years experience working directly in the field of workplace health promotion and/or disability management
  • Post-secondary degree in human resources or social sciences is preferred
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written; capable of communicating information effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver high quality, accurate work
  • Ability to negotiate difficult situations and to build positive relationships with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders
  • Ability to influence others towards positive outcomes and ensure progress on initiatives
  • Experience in facilitating presentations and delivering training is an asset
  • Experience in a unionized environment or public sector environment is an asset
  • Preference for individuals who have experience providing health and wellness promotion
