Job Description

Employment Specialist/Job DeveloperLocation: based in Calgary ABThe Employment Specialist / Job Developer will work in collaboration with the referral source to provide Job Search Support Services including resume, cover letter, job search and employment preparation support and individualized job search support to clients. In addition, you will provide employment counselling to assist clients in identifying alternate job options through thorough assessment and planning. In this role, you will make a difference in the lives of our clients through assisting unemployed individuals in identifying, preparing and obtaining employment and returning to the workforce, identifying prospective employers and assist in meeting their hiring needs and matching available clients with employers who have hiring opportunities. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to conduct transferrable skills assessments, vocational evaluations and job search training for clients who are seeking to re-enter the workforce in an alternate occupation. You will be responsible for linking adult participants to work experience and employment opportunities. and also facilitate regular workshops on employment preparation topics and provide individualized support. A successful candidate will have experience networking to build relationships with employers and industry professionals and have a solid understanding of the labour market. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conducting vocational profiles to determine employment history, education and experience
  • Assessing transferrable skills and employment barriers
  • Completing resumes and cover letters
  • Conducting labor market research
  • Identifying and developing employment opportunities and directly placing participants into suitable positions in the labour market
  • Ensuring sustainability in job placement; providing direct support to participants and employers to maintain employment
  • Providing direct participant services including: facilitating employment preparation workshops, posting notices, managing social media accounts, developing and presenting information on professional resumes and job search skills, attending hiring fairs, coordinating and facilitating employment boot camp events
  • Contacting employers (cold calling, networking, events, etc.) and developing a strong network of employer contacts
  • Developing job readiness by identifying challenges, barriers and assistance they may need to gain meaningful employment
  • Assessing and addressing individual needs, barriers, and complexities and developing and managing service plans
  • Ensuring effective and ongoing communication with identified stakeholders, including participants, professionals, referral sources, and amongst a strong interdisciplinary team
  • Connecting participants with appropriate community resources, including Alberta services (available through the Alberta Government), Federal Government Services, and local agencies and service providers
  • Identifying and connecting with employers to identify their recruitment and hiring needs
  • Timely report writing, in accordance with current templates, guides, standards and processes
  • Record keeping and maintaining paper and electronic files
  • Creating and maintaining a database for employer connections and networking contacts
Minimum Qualifications
  • University Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences or related field including Community Rehabilitation, Vocational Rehabilitation, Psychology, Social Work, Education etc.
  • 1-3 years of career and employment counselling, job development/placement and marketing, case management, government programming, and/or facilitation experience required
  • Candidates should have a strong understanding of the Alberta labour market with an emphasis on their respective locations; knowledge specific to the supply chain sector an asset
  • Sensitivity to learning limitations that may be present with participants
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
  • Knowledgeable with social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, as well as key job search sites including Glassdoor, Indeed, CareerBuilder for job searching and applications
  • Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • An excellent understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity
  • Security background check required
