Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities:Wood is a global leader in the Energy sector; leading our clients on their Energy Transition journeys. Our Energy Consulting business spans Oil Sands, Conventional Oil & Gas, Power and Industrial sectors and our expertise in Oil & Gas Processing, Carbon Capture, Hydrogen and Renewables is unmatched. Our mission is to support our customers to decarbonize their assets and meet their ESG goals.To support this effort Wood is seeking an Energy Transition Manager based in our Calgary, AB office. This person will be responsible for leading and growing the Energy Transition Consulting business in Canada.The business is generally focused on feasibility, concept-select, pre-FEED, due diligence, and consulting where professional expert advice is requested. Markets supported include Oil Sands, Upstream, Downstream, and Midstream oil and gas (including LNG) sectors, Power and Industrial with a strong focus on decarbonization initiatives such as Carbon Capture, Hydrogen production and Renewables.This is an exciting time to join the Wood consulting team as we lead the way in Energy Transition. The role requires an experienced technical leader with strong business and industry acumen and an ability to work with a high degree of autonomy. The role offers an exciting blend of customer management, business management and technical study delivery.Responsibilities:

  • Owner of the overall growth strategy for Energy Transition projects, a key ambassador, and focal-point for the business in Energy Transition.
  • Drive growth within the business – focusing on business development, marketing & communications, identifying strategic initiatives that foster sustainable growth, and promoting consistency in successful project delivery
  • Directly assist in the development of the annual strategic planning process and setting goals within Energy Transition
  • Contribute to and drive the progressive business in accordance with annual targets and performance metrics
  • Lead the tender development & review process for new opportunities
  • Works within the matrix organization – providing functional support and guidance to the personnel assigned to deliver Energy Transition projects, across all project delivery groups/functions and disciplines
  • Collaborate with the G&D team in identifying new markets, Clients, marketing needs, internal communications. Support the development of Wood’s differentiators, win-strategies, and value-proposition that will be used by BD to present to our Clients. Participate-in and support Client presentations and meetings specific to Energy Transition.
  • Identifies where key SME and technical resources are required to support growth
  • Establish strategies and objectives for growth of the Energy Consulting business in Canada and direct team efforts to attain the objectives
  • Lead or direct client engagements and proposals for consulting projects with support from the Business Development function
  • Monitor and manage performance on each project undertaken by the group
  • Ensure high quality technical delivery on all work
  • Develop relationships with and work closely with other groups within Wood that can provide the expertise often needed for the multifaceted projects this group pursues and executes.
  • Maintain a high focus on developing and retaining personnel
  • Work with marketing and sales enablement team to establish Attend and participate in industry events
Skills / Qualifications:Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Advanced degree a plus
  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience in the energy field
  • Must demonstrate a high focus on business development, commercial deal making, regulatory and interface management.
  • A thorough understanding of a consultancy focused business, but experience in broader detailed engineering and EPC projects a plus
  • Demonstrated project and engineering management experience
  • Demonstrated success in selling, understanding client needs and managing client-facing situations
  • Capable of working in a matrix organization, using influence to get support over authority
Industry Expertise
  • Hands on experience and knowledge of multiple aspects of the Energy Transition including frameworks, drivers, challenges, and opportunities for customers in the Utilities, Wholesale Energy, Retail Energy and Energy Transportation segments
  • Experience leading and managing large technology change projects including custom development, integration, and COTS implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with business and technology stakeholders, from ideation to implementation, in strategic initiatives.
Key Skills
  • Safety Commitment: Promotes a safety culture and adherence to regulations, best practices, protocols, and policies for health, safety, and the environment.
  • Experience with risk analysis approaches including HAZOPs, LOPA, PHA, and ‘What If’ assessments.
  • Technical: Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and fundamentals.
  • Experienced with regulatory requirements, licensing / legal requirements, supporting documentation, and the detailed design of gas processing facilities including turbo-expanders, compressors, fractionation towers, dehydration units, amine sweeteners, storage bullets, and NGL metering.
  • Knowledgeable with ABSA, AGA, API, ASME, CSA, IEC.
  • Collaboration and Cooperation: Collaborates and cooperates with internal and external clients and subject matter experts regularly during project initiation, scope development, and project execution.
  • Provides stakeholders and team members with the project status, decisions, and direction.
  • Facilitation: Interprets complex information and digests it into clear deliverables and actions.
  • Communication: Articulate with excellent communication skills including report writing and presentation
  • skills attuned to all levels of management, project goals, and stakeholders needs. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership: Manages, guides, motivates, and provides strategic direction to achieve the project’s objectives, the project’s vision and communicating concise project objectives to align teams
  • Change Management: Manages changes / variances, impact assessment, risk mitigation logs, adjusting project budgets, cost controls, implementation, and business case objectives
  • Negotiation: Proactive in engaging internal customers and other stakeholders
