Job Description

Position Summary1. Manages day to day operations of a fully integrated facility maintenance, groundskeeping and housekeeping programs to ensure CS(C) facilities are properly maintained; and provide a safe, functioning and comfortable environment.2. Manages day to day operation of the Warehouse and CS(C)’s vehicle fleet in cost effective, safe,and efficient manner to ensure CS(C)’s programs are supported for their warehousing and logistical needsHours/ScheduleFull Time – 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday.Occasional weekend and evening shifts. On-call duties. Daily travel between East Campus and West Campus sites involved.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be familiar with all aspects of building systems and building and grounds operations; is conversant with all safety, fire, and building codes.
  • Ensure that established building standards and efficiencies are maintained.
  • Conduct regular site inspections of the West Campus and East Campus for repairs and maintenance; follow-up with Director of Facilities for action plan, as required.
  • Plan facility activities, control schedules, develop work standards and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity ofequipment and skill of personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government legislation, as well as Salvation Army policies and procedures, related to building maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Plan, direct, and may implementpreventative maintenance procedures for related equipment; recommends and performs minor and some moderate repairs.
  • In conjunction withDirector of Facilities, participate in planning and coordinating renovation projects, including dry walling, minor electrical repairs, painting, and plumbing.
  • Determine, recommend and requisition needed maintenance and custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Communicate with vendors and other outside organizations to coordinate activities and obtain assistance.
  • Conduct regular site inspections ensuring building and equipment meets scheduled and periodic maintenance requirements, and contractor service levels are achieved.
  • Conduct moderate troubleshooting of building systems and call-in other professionals when required.
  • Carry out maintenance requirements on a scheduled or periodic basis including but not limited to filter replacement, lamp replacement, HVAC adjustments, washrooms, and equipment repairs, etc. • Maintain and adjust computerized programsfor all systems including but not limited to, building automation and lighting controls, security access controls, and preventative maintenance packages as required.
  • Respond to emergency conditions and building emergency calls, including after hours, and report accordingly.
  • Oversee facilities team and schedule maintenance requests.
  • Monitor risk management and environmental issues, and report accordingly.
  • Participate in emergency evacuation training sessions.
  • Perform inspections and maintain custodial practices and standards of safety and sanitation; train new employees; keep records and prepare reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Maintains and develops positive relationship with donors; evaluates donations, and manages pickup, storage, and distribution of donations.
  • Responsible forsafe and efficient operation of the warehouse, warehouse equipment and CS(C) vehicle fleet.
  • Ensures warehouse equipment and CS(C) vehicles are maintained in good working order, schedules preventative and routine maintenance.
  • Maintains warehouse inventory in compliance with The Salvation Army and governmental guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with legislative and organizationalpolicies such as OH&S, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts, Food Sanitation and Hygiene.
  • Ensures warehouse staff are trained and/or licensed in safe operation of equipment and vehicles.
Experience, skills and capabilities:
  • Facility Management or Property Management Certificate earned through a post secondary school program (1 year minimum.)
  • Food Sanitation and Hygiene course (Section 31 of Public Health Act Food Regulation) or equivalent.
  • Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable SectorSearch
  • Child Intervention Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and satisfactory driver’s abstract showing proof ofclean driving record.
  • Current Alberta approved Standard First Aid with CPR.
  • A minimum of three years of prior related experience in supervisory/management in facility management ofcommercial properties.
  • Sound working knowledge of health and safety standards, general repairs (i.e., electrical & plumbing), building systems, fire safety, water treatment and electrical systems.
  • Project management skills including proficiency in planning work projects, scheduling, and assigning work tasks.
  • Sets clear standards and practices forservice delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm; very good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to infuse employees with pride in what the work they do.
  • Proactive in identifying and addressing hazards and dangers.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel,MS Teams)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Works atvarious Community Services (Calgary) sites, which includes traveling between sites using personal and/orcompany vehicle daily.
  • Work isperformed in a community-use, warehouse, and shelter environment; inside/outside of the facility.
  • Exposed to weather as work is done indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Work schedule may vary (evenings, weekends, and on-call for emergencies). May be exposed to hazardous driving conditions, as well as varying temperatures depending on seasonal weather.
  • Moving furniture, pushing, and pulling, as well as lifting items up to 50 lbs
  • Incumbent is on call 24/7 and carries a cell phone, which may impact lifestyle.
  • Works in restricted spaces and heights (performing overhead maintenance and/or repair work up to 35 feet up).
  • May deal with aggressive people and may experience verbal, and less likely, physical attacks.
