Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. We show RESPECT by caring for our people and place.About the RoleThe Fitness Centre Team Lead is a member of Cougars Athletics and Recreation which actively creates, promotes, and sustains an environment in which the Mount Royal University community is challenged and supported in pursuit of personal growth in the areas of Athletics and Recreation.Reporting to the Fitness and Customer Experience Supervisor, the Team Lead is an integral member of the programs and services team. The team is driven by their why: to inspire people to move so that they can be the best versions of themselves. We invite and welcome people to show up as their authentic selves; we develop people in ways that matter most to them; we build communities that connect people to what brings them joy; we create accessible and inclusive spaces, places, and programs; and we establish relationships that foster a sense of belonging.The Fitness Centre Team Lead assists with ensuring a safe, accessible and inclusive physical environment in various fitness spaces and assists in the delivery of personal training services. This position is also responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of virtual fitness and wellness program content.ResponsibilitiesPersonal Training Service Delivery (40%)

  • Schedule, observe, and mentor personal training practicum students.
  • Assist with the day to day and ongoing functions of Personal Training services including: respond to inquiries, matching trainers to customer needs, tracking visits, and reconciling personal training invoices.
  • Assist in the planning, development, coordination and administration of small group training sessions.
  • Assist with determining benchmarking data for program evaluation and improvement.
Fitness Centre Operations (40%)
  • Assist with the day to day operations of the Fitness Centre including: staff training and onboarding, staff scheduling, record keeping, maintaining/cleaning equipment, risk management, active supervision, dealing with difficult customers and supervision of student staff.
  • Work collaboratively with Supervisor and Coordinator to maximize customer experiences in the Fitness Centre and assist in the development of systems, policies and procedures that foster access, inclusion, and enjoyment in all spaces.
  • Facilitate a culture that resolves concerns and closes the feedback loop in a timely fashion in accordance with appropriate compliance, policies and procedures.
Virtual Fitness Programming (20%)
  • Assist in the design and delivery of virtual fitness and wellness content that inspires people to move so that they can be the best version of themselves.
  • Engage with campus stakeholders (Healthy Campus Team, Students Association, faculties, Personal Fitness Trainer Programs, etc) to plan and create virtual content.
Qualifications
  • Passion and energy to inspire people to move so that they can be the best verion of themselves.
  • Minimum of 18-24 months of relevant experience in a similar environment (e.g fitness centre/gym)
  • CSEP-CPT (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology - Certified Personal Trainer or equivalent.
  • Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR Certification
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and work as a member of the team
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring others.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer/technical proficiency in Microsoft and Google applications
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ActiveNet or similar recreation registration and facility management software.
  • Membership and active involvement in relevant professional organizations such as Fitness Alberta, Alberta Parks and Recreation Association, NIRSA, and/or other higher education associations.
